Iceland is where photographers go when they die. It’s a beautiful landscape and light never stops giving. Sunsets and sunrises are special every day. as a photographer, you don’t get much sleep in Iceland because there is so much to see. This sunset with the moon was made one evening after a hike up a mountain. The whispy clouds, sunset color, and moon make it simply work.
This has been a strange year. It all began with loads of optimism and has turned out to be something totally surreal. The Worldwide Pandemic has changed everything. But, before the Pandemic started I was lucky to get an Antratcia Workshop in and with Art Wolfe and Michael Durr as well as 28 guests. We took this trip onboard The Magellan Explorer, a brand new ship run by Antarctica 21 the charter company I have been using for years. Thie trip was an incredible experience and I wrote an article over on photoPXL.com with four videos and the trip log for the trip. With this blog entry, I have included four photos but the article on PXL has a lot more plus the video will blow you away. While in Punta Arenas I was taking a nap in mid-afternoon when I heard drums and trumpets. I looked out the window looking over the town square and saw soldiers marching through the street. I grabbed my camera and rushed out of the hotel and found there was a changing of the colors ceremony going on. So, I spent an hour shooting the ceremony and this is one of the shots I liked. I used a 100-400mm zoom on my Sony a7riv. I changed and did wide-angle shots and covered this event from multi-angles. It was a good exercise. I just like this image as it was defining without showing faces. What do you think?

It’s been too long since my last post. When the Pandemic was declared and we went into lockdown things changed a lot and this blog lost its priority for me. Then Debra’s dad got sick and died of Covid-19 and then Debra caught COVID and we have a crisis with that. For now, things have settled down and we are into a new normal. I can’t say I l like the new normal. But, Debra and I have decided to stay as much in s=isolation as we can and avoid other people. Somehow I managed not to get infected and thus I am really being careful. After seeing her spend 16 days in bed in what was by the worst sickness she ever had I would like to see f I can pass on that experience. So we only go out to the stores for supplies or do the curbside pick-up from our favorite restaurants.
During the lockdown, I have had a chance to go back through a lot of images. I am cataloging old sessions to make them easier to work with and reprocessing many of my images, Today we start off with an iceberg shot that was part of one of my stories One Iceberg Many Looks story. For this shot, I opened it on my Pad and then sued Snapseen and DidtressedFX+ to radically change the image for a more dynamic image. It’s just one was as photographers we can express ourselves using the many digital tools available.

There are many things to love about Australia. I have a lot of fo friends there and have traveled there a number of times. The landscapes can be really beautiful. Throughout the centra; part of Australia there are these beautiful gum trees. These are gorgeous shaped trees with white bark. As in this picture, the white bark really contrasts with the bluff walls in Orbiston Gorge.
Nature has patience. And, with all my travels I have seen many times how nature reclaims what is here. Whether it be a Forrest devastated by. fire, an abandoned house or rusty and rotting machines. Mother nature always wins. She has immense patience. In this image, I was walking through a train yeard looking for abstract photo opportunities. I stopped at this one train car and found this. A small but of a plant of some kind growing in the rusty dust form the boxcar door of this train. Nature always finds a way.
I have been working on a personal project for the last two years and I am now at the editing and selection stage. This is a project of square format images made as double exposures. Lots of fun and something different. I’ll show a major selection of these at my gallery at the end of April. I’ll share more over the coming weeks.
