Another image from one of my favorite cities to shoot architectural abstracts. This one was done with a Sony and a 100-400mm lens. I then corrected perspective in post-processing so all the lines were straight up and down. The golden glow was caused by early morning light which is my favorite shooting time in Chicago.
I am always looking for the picture in the picture. This is a photo of an old beached boat on a beach in Svalbard. What I like to od is shoot the picture of the larger subject (the boat) itself then go in close and start to look for new compositions. Sometimes I use a long lens like the 100-400nn lens. In this shot, I saw the bow of the ship as it’s own abstract photo. I moved back a bit and zoomed in with the telephoto lens to compress the image a bit. Then I shot it. At first, if you see the images you might not know what it is. This forces the viewer to stop for a minute to figure it out. Some people may not even figure it out. I like this subject as it has a lot of things I like, such as rust and peeling paint. Enjoy.

The Palouse is such a place of beauty. Farmland that is art. No matter where you go in the Palouse the simplicity of the landscape p[presents numerous photographic opportunities. This was shot from Steptoe Butte where elevated views change the way you see this countryside.
I was in Japan in February running a workshop on the Island of Hokkaido. This is an amazing and stunning location. We decided to drive north on the east side of the island until we couldn’t go any further. The mission was to find the fox, but there was none to be found. Instead, we found these avalanche fences on the hillsides in fresh snow. The patterns and a very monochromatic landscape pushed me to think BW, and that is what I used in making my series on Snow Fences. Here is one of the images. Shot with a Fuji
First let me apologize for any regular readers that it has been so long since I posted. I was on a. 3 week plus road trip without any significant internet. So, now it is catch up time. This image is the hot air balloon that I’m about to ride in being filled up with hot air. I’m inside with the flame coming right at me. Lots of fun.
I was recently invited to a Sony event to try out the new Sony a7r III camera. Quite the camera and full of features to make any photography lust for it. On the article part of the site you can find some articles on this camera and trip with more coming. In any case here is a fun photo of me just prior to taking off.
Dettifoss in Iceland. The amount of water flowing over this falls is incredible. Where does it all come from? Shot on our summer workshop in Iceland. This waterfall offers numerous different angles to shoot from. You can get right up to the edge too. Pretty cool experience to visit this location.
I am now back in the office and in catch up mode. The Luminous-Landscape workshop I just finished running in Iceland was a success. I did this workshop with my long time friend Daniel Bergmann who is one of the premier guides for Iceland. He is also a great photographer and wildlife expert.
Iceland has gotten quite crowded with tourists over the last several years. While this is good for the country economically it is a burden on many visitors as there are now so many people. On our trips, we won’t even go near the tourist spots. Too many buses and crazy people. Instead, we travel to the remote and more picturesque areas of Iceland that tourists don’t visit. This year we visited some places I haven’t visited before. The bottom line if I came home with a ton of nice images. Some of which I share below.

One morning while shooting in Silo City I went off exploring and found another silo complex that had been overrun with weeds and obviously was a place of some wild parties. Lots of graffiti decorated the complex and I had a good time looking at many angles and shooting the location.
