I love shooting rust and industrial landscapes. It breaks up the routine of shooting nature and allows me a set of fresh eyes on different types of subjects. This image and tomorrows image was made in Silo City in Buffalo. This one location has provided me with an extraordinary amount of photographic opportunities. What I try to do in situations like this is to find symmetry and balance in the industrial components and then play with the light to take the image even further. I decided that black and white worked best for these.
As I have featured before Silo City in Buffalo, NY offers some great photo opportunities. This shot was made while I was wandering around outside of the facility. I found this purple door and a lot of junk covering it. I simply composed and shot. I then did some enhancements in post-processing to raise contrast and color and make the image a bit more striking.
I have published a number of images from Silo City. This is a location of grain silos in Buffalo. I have published a number of images from Silo City in the past on this blog. I had the opportunity to shoot a model for one day of my three that I spent shooting there. She happened to be a dancer and was able to strike great poses. I was trying to show the human life form in contrast to the machinery of this place. I really like this image.
The one thing I learned over the weekend that industry has its own beauty. While the Water Works and the Silos were functional and productive facilities, the design lent itself to interesting and wonderful photographic beauty. This is another image from Silo City. I love the symmetry and the balance as well as the way the light is reflected. Hope you enjoy.
While shooting this massive silo complex in Buffalo this past weekend I had the opportunity to shoot some models provide by another photographer that was there. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed shooting people and maybe it’s time to do more of that kind of shooting. Here is one of my images from hundreds that I shot while there.
Here is my first interior shoot at Silo City. Amazing place with lots of potential. Look for more soon.
