Doesn’t Get Much Better

Ernslaw Burn, Before the shot, New Zealand

It’s Saturday and I usually spend a bit of time working on old images, sorting, cataloging etc.. Today I stumbled on this shot and then looked at some of the other images for this shoot. This was made on a New Zealand PODAS photography workshop I lead lead year. I am doing another this December CLCK HERE for info on it. One of the places we visit is Ernslaw Burn and it is only accessible by helicopter. It is truly one of those edge of the planes places. This is a shot of my ALPA with an IQ180 back set up on it about to shoot this massive area. I think we counted a total of 90 plus waterfalls coming off of glaciers a thousand feet high.  You should put it on your bucket list, better yet come with me this December

Tanks In Antarctica

Tanks In Snow, Antarctica

Hard to believe that in such a pristine place you can find tanks. In antarctica on one of our stops we came across these tanks with aircraft rotary engines in a field near an abandoned US Research base. You must know if you are a regular follower that I have a thing for rust. And, of all places in this snow field I got my full dose.

Australia Outback

The Bush, Australia Outback

One of the most amazing places I have visited has been the outback in Australia.  When I visited we a place and stayed at a small post called Glen Helen.  From there we ventured off into the bush.  This was hot in the bush as they would say.  I loved the way it turned out in B&W.  The trees are gum trees.  Shot with a Phase One IQ 180.

Wall In Mexico

Wall – San Miguel, Mexico

This image was shot earlier this this year near San Miguel, Mexico.  It’s part of an old silver mine that we spent time in shooting. It struck me because of the colors and cactus as well as the window in the wall.  Shot with a Phase One IQ180 camera and processed in Capture One.

More Zion

Zion National Park in the fall

The last week in October and first week in November is a great time to visit Zion National Park. The colors are changing, the weather is great and the light is beautiful. I have been working on some of my older files and the last few evenings I have been doing Zion images. So expect more. This was shot with a P45+ and a Phase One camera.

A Classic

I say classic as this image was made on a bridge overlooking a stream and at sunset there will be 50 photographers on this bridge trying to capture this shot. The one above was made by taking six images and stitching them together. I used Capture One to balance the shadows and highlights from just one exposure. It helps it was taken on a Phase One P45+ as the dynamic range of all Phase One backs is so good. I have been re-working a lot of my images and I’ll post another Zion picture tonight.

Rose

Rose

This past week I traveled from Indianapolis to Toronto and then to San Francisco and eventually back to Indy. I made a visit to a friend and fellow photographers home and he ad a Rose garden. So, I got my iPhone out and did some quick shots of the roses. If I publish flowers I usually try to make them look different. I tried to make this one different too.  I hope you like it.
