Remembering Tuscany

I miss traveling and by now I  must sound like a broken record.  A few years ago I  visited Tuscany while leading a workshop there with Art Wolfe.  Here are a select few images showing just how colorful Tuscany is.

Valparaiso Doors – With Video

There is a city in Chile that is about a two-hour drive from Santiago called Valparaiso.  It’s a great name as there is a city here in Indiana named the some.  Valparaiso in Chile is a city built on a number of hills.  It’s. port city and until the Panama canal opened up years ago it was one of the busiest ports in South America.  It’s also known now as a city of graffiti.  Essentially the whole city is a street art gallery that graffiti artists have made a joy to walk through.  I have added some images here for you to enjoy.  I also have a video of my visit to Valparaiso that is fun to watch.  You can find the video The Streets Of Valparaiso HERE

The Bottleworks hotel

For years there was an abandoned industrial complex where Coke used to have a bottling plant.  The architecture was gothic and the buildings had beautiful ceramic-like facades.  For a while, the city of Indianapolis used it as a bus depot.  Then it was bought by developers several years ago to turn it into a new city destination spot.  Mission accomplished as it is now opening up and attracting a lot of traffic.  These images focus on the hotel part of the project, Bottleworks Hotel.  Enjoy!

Arctic Fox

If you are a regular reader you know I love the polar regions of our planet.  THis image was made of an arctic fox in Svalbard which is just about as far north as you can go.  The image shows this fox in front of a bunch of feathers and bones.  These are remarkable creatures as they change coats from white to grey in the changing seasons.  They also have a very short lifespan.  They are fast and can usually be found with dens near the bird cliffs in Svalbard.

Missing Antarctica

Antarctica 2014

Normally this time of year I would be headed south to run a workshop for photographers in Antarctica.  Unfortunately for obvious reasons of the pandemic, this is not happening.  I wanted to share a few images I was recently working on from previous trips.  I am working on doing a book of Antarctica images that may take a few months to finish.  These images may be in it.

I am planning an Antarctica trip for this November as well as next February.  If you are interested you can find information at Rock Hopper Workshops website.

Pebble Beach

A few years ago I was doing a week-long project documenting a well-known photographer, Charlie Cramer.  One of the places we visited while doing the photography segment was a location called Pebble Beach.  It was a beautiful location with sandstone that was sculptured from erosion.  The pockets would then fill with colorful pebbles.

Also, while at the location I was walking a path, and then on a beach below was a gorgeous woman running out of the surf naked.  You just never know what you will find when you are out shooting.

The Magic Bus

Sometimes when traveling you come across some strange things along the roadside. In the Palouse area on the road to Palouse Falls State Park someone parke a bus.  And, like a lot of things in the Palouse they left it there, abandoned.  And, as is obvious the artist in people have had a chance to make this bus graffiti heaven.  The look of this bus changes every week as drive by artists add their own style.  You’ll find some magic markers and many times a few spary paint cans left over by other artists.  Use the magic markers to sign your name or try your hand at some graffiti.

My Jeep

My Jeep Gladiator.  This was supposed to be the vehicle to take me to all sorts of places last year.  Before the Pandemic, it made a Trip to South Carolina, Florida, and back home again.  It’s the perfect adventure vehicle.  The plans were to use it on several photo adventures in 2020, but that obviously didn’t happen.  I was able to go to North Carolina as one adventure, but it felt strange with all the COVID restrictions along the way. This year, I hope to put a Cap on the back, giving me more storage space, and after I am vaccinated, and feel it is a bit safer to head out on some adventures.

The Jeep Gladiator makes me feel you.  It’s a fun truck to drive.  It can go anywhere and perfectly suited for what I do.  I’ll share some of my adventures here as they happen.

Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park
Yosemite National Park

A little ove a year ago I ventured a trip from Deth Valley to Yosemite National Park with my friend Jeff Schewe.  Jeff and I have travelled many places in the world together including Australia and Anarctica.  It’s always fun and photographically productive.  This trip was too.  This is from one of the numerous bridges in the valley of Yosemite.
