Valparaiso Doors – With Video

There is a city in Chile that is about a two-hour drive from Santiago called Valparaiso.  It’s a great name as there is a city here in Indiana named the some.  Valparaiso in Chile is a city built on a number of hills.  It’s. port city and until the Panama canal opened up years ago it was one of the busiest ports in South America.  It’s also known now as a city of graffiti.  Essentially the whole city is a street art gallery that graffiti artists have made a joy to walk through.  I have added some images here for you to enjoy.  I also have a video of my visit to Valparaiso that is fun to watch.  You can find the video The Streets Of Valparaiso HERE

Valparaiso Chile

Valparaiso, Chile . . . Click On The Image to See Larger

On my visits to Santiago, Chile I usually make it a point to arrive a few days early so I can spend a day shooting in Valparaiso.  Valparaiso is a coastal town about 2 hours away from Santiago.  You can hire a car fo the day and take a tour of this city built on a hillside.  The attraction is all the graffiti.  It’s a city of Graffiti art and there are some incredible places to photograph. On my last trip there I had lunch at a small cafe and out the window of the cafe, I saw the scene above.  I love rust and I really liked the story the photograph told.  A lot can be interpreted by viewing this image.  What do you see?

The Streets Of Valparaiso

Street Art - Valparaiso, Chile
Street Art – Valparaiso, Chile

Street are or graffiti is illegal in Chile but you would never know it.  One clever city figured if you can’t beat them then join them.  So they opened up the city walls to talented street graffiti artists and have ended up with a very cool place to find very cool street art.  This image was made on one of those streets.  I’ll have more.  Shot with a Fuji X-t1.

Tub On The Porch

Tub On A Porch, Valparaiso, Chile

Prior to the trip to Antarctica a number of the party I was was traveling with decided to visit Valparaiso, Chile.  This is a seaside city on the coast of Chile built on a hillside.  I was surprised on how lovely this city was and the energy this city had.  Certainly is on mum list to visit again next year when I go back to Antarctica.  We spent a lot of time walking the streets here and shooting wall art and city views.  Then we stumbled on this bathtub on a porch.  I am sure you can think of any number of reasons this tub is here.  Have fun.

Street Art

During my trip to Antarctica I spent a day in Santiago.  A group of us decided to hire a guide and small bus and we visited Valparaiso.  This is a small seaside town in Chile.  In almost all South American  cities graffiti is a problem like it was in the cities of the US back in the eighties.  To combat this in Valparaiso the city asked artists to create wall art and this kind of art as shown above is everywhere.  There are some amazing artworks all over the city.  It’s like walking around a museum except you are walking city streets.
