I am out in Arizona working on the details for a November PODAS workshop. It will include the Monument Valley area and Slot Canyons of Page, AZ. Today I spent some time in Upper Antelope canyon shooting and checking it out. There are two canyons upper and lower and both are great places for photos. On the workshop not only will we spend time in each of these but we also visit some canyons that you only can see if you know the right people. The same goes for Monument Valley. I’ll post information about this workshop when I have all the details. This is just one cool image with sun rays shooting to the canyon floor. I have a lot of keepers from today.
Year: 2012
Monument Valley Classic
Monument Valley located in Southern Utah and bordering on the AZ line. A Navajo reservation with some absolutely spectacular natural stone formations. There are many ways to see this magnificent place. There are tours and a 14 mile road you can drive yourself and stop along the way. Or, you can take a PODAS photography workshop and experience with the best instructors and cameras there are. I’ll be posting a few more images over the next few days.
Big Boat
This is a B&W shot of an old Great Lakes Steamer. It has been in Saugatuck, MI for what seems forever. It’s rusting and falling apart. On June 4th they are moving this boat to a new location in Canada and will be restoring it. That will be quite a site as it is towed out the river. Wish I could be there, but I will be in Iceland.
Pilgrims Bed
On my recent trip to Mexico I had the opportunity to visit a church not too far from San Miguel where there was a pilgrimage of about 1000 men. They come to this church for a week of worship. They all sleep there and everyone sets up a sleeping area like you see above. Pretty amazing place and some great images were made there.
A Little Bit Of Me
OK, yesterday was a kid in the window, today it is me in the mirror. I like trying to include myself in some images I make. What more can I say?
Little Boy In A Window
It’s fun to walk the streets with a camera. And this past weekend my camera of choice was the iPhone and using the Hipstamatic App. While it was fun I did miss my big boy cameras a few times. But it was an exercise to shoot simple, and see well. I came away with amazing images. This one was shot while walking the street of Holland, MI. I walked past this shop and they had hand painted big letters on the shop window. Sitting near the window was a couple and a cute baby. So I motioned if they could put the kids face in the hole of the letter and they did. I got three good shots. Like this one the best.
Leaky Boats
The weekend was a fun shoot. Saw many things and had a lot of fun shooting the out of the ordinary. Heading west this weekend so expect to see some big landscapes by this time next week. In the meantime I am still having fun posting the different. Todays shot is a continuation of the image from yesterday. These are two of around ten life boats in a big field just sitting there rusting away. Some very cool photo possibilities. Shot with an iPhone and using the hipstamatic app. I used the Kodat and Jonny S combo. Lots of fun to shoot small. Next week it’s back to 80 mega pixels.
Gears
While wandering with my iPhone we visited an antique store. A very cool place and it was photographers dream. So many cool and unusual items. Outside I found a basket full of gears and I did some shots. This one of the ones I like the best. Shot with iPhone and hipstamtic app and a bit of enhancement in Snapseed.
Wet Tulip
So I went away tho weekend and tried for the most part not to shoot with my big boy cameras. I concentrated on iPhone images mainly shot in the Hipstamatic app. Sometimes you just need to break the mold and do something different, try to see things in a different way and just have fun. The next few images are from this weekend and it shows just how much fun you can if you see and look for things. Today’s image was made of a wet tulip. I am not big for flower images as everyone can do one, but if you can do it a bit differently then what the heck. THe hipstamatic, a little work in Snapseed and the rain on the pedals make this image worthy of a blog shot here.
Your Carriage Awaits
Near Saugutuck, Michigan there a cool antique store called Sunrise Junque. I have been going there for years and will soon make a book from this interesting place. Here’s a shot from a few years ago. I think they go and buy old amusement park things as well as tons of other stuff. They spread it all out and it is a photographers dream to shoot there. Not to mention I have come home with some cool stuff over the years.
