Day 1 Iceland

The Hraunfossar Falls
The Hraunfossar Falls

I am off to 10 days of shooting in Iceland in the winter.  Yes there is ice in Iceland.  Our first stop was a set of waterfalls that just come out of the earth.  Very beautiful and quite long.  I have a few keepers from this stop and shoot but this is one of my favorites.  On a trip like this I’ll take thousands of images.   So, I’ll do quick edits while in Iceland and on the trip and I’ll try to post everyday if I have good internet.  So, keep checking back.  I believe this is the Hraunfossar falls.

Off To Iceland Tomorrow

Waterfall, Iceland
Waterfall, Iceland

I am heading off to Iceland for my fourth trip tomorrow.  This is one of my favorite places to photograph.  As a fine art landscape photographer I know of no place that offers such stunning beauty no mater what season it is.  This trip will be nice as it is the first one where I won’t be going in summer months.  It will be cold, maybe snowy and best of all there will be darkness.  In June and during the summer there is 24 hours of light.  This also means I’ll be able to shoot the northern lights with the NEW Phase One IQ260 camera.  So stay tuned.  I”ll update the blog as often as internet connections allow.  This shot is from one of the many waterfalls that I converted to B&W.  After the many trips I have made there I try to make things look different.

So Many Times

Waterfall In Iceland
Waterfall In Iceland

This is a location I have photographed many times in Iceland.  On each visit I shoot at this wonderful place.  It’s right by the road and has an easy pull off.  I shoot with different lenses and from different angles.  Combine this with different light and every time I leave this great place I walk away with a great image.  Here is one version from a year ago.  I’ll be visiting Iceland again in a few weeks and I am sure going to shoot here again.

Scotland

Scotland 2012How do you describe what it is like to be a photographer in Scotland.  It’s an amazing place and almost every time you turn your head you find a scene worth photographing.  Being there this past fall we had great color and great light as can be seen in this stunning shot.  This is one of the classic places to shoot in Scotland.  Water, cold and a mountain.

Doesn’t Get Much Better

Ernslaw Burn, Before the shot, New Zealand

It’s Saturday and I usually spend a bit of time working on old images, sorting, cataloging etc.. Today I stumbled on this shot and then looked at some of the other images for this shoot. This was made on a New Zealand PODAS photography workshop I lead lead year. I am doing another this December CLCK HERE for info on it. One of the places we visit is Ernslaw Burn and it is only accessible by helicopter. It is truly one of those edge of the planes places. This is a shot of my ALPA with an IQ180 back set up on it about to shoot this massive area. I think we counted a total of 90 plus waterfalls coming off of glaciers a thousand feet high.  You should put it on your bucket list, better yet come with me this December

Waterfall Through Trees

Waterfall through the threes, Rickets Glen, PA

It feels so good to be shooting and especially when you are in the woods outdoors and stumble upon a shot like this.  This was at Rickets Glen in Pennsylvania.  Lots of waterfalls there.  This shot was taken through the trees (obviously).  I wanted to combine the fall colors with the waterfall equally.  I really love the feel of this image and how it is simple and pleasing to look at.  Shot with a P65+

Waterfalls and Rainbows

Waterfall and Rainbows, Iceland

Trying to type a few sentences and my new kitten seems to want to help.  She has a fascination with keyboards and screen cursors.  This shot was made earlier this summer in iceland, one of my favorite spots of all time.  This is a waterfall and it was at sunset creating a very cool rainbow.  Shot with a Phase One IQ180.

Waterfall In the Fall

Waterfall at Rickets Glen Park, Pennsylvania

You can find amazing places close to home sometimes.  One of those places is Rickets Glenn Park in pennsylvania.  There are 26 waterfalls there and you can spend several days shooting them.  You have to do some hiking but it is quite beautiful especially in early October when the colors change.  I’ll be posting more images from this wonderful place in coming days.
