Fun At A Car Show

Headlight On A Classic Car

Once a year the Arts District where I live (Carmel, IN) holds a classic car show.  It is a big draw and a lot of fun to see all the cool cars that are on display.  Like all things in Carmel, it has a certain charm and small town feel.  I love going to see what I can find to take pictures of.  I look for different angles and views that are typical snapshots.  Nothing new with that but I love cars with their curves and angles.  So here is the first image.  I’ll post more soon.

Factory

I went for the monthly Sunday drive with Debra my companion in photography and more on Sunday and our goal was to find old Indiana Limestone quarries near Bloomington.  Mission was a success but many were chained and blocked so we couldn’t get in.  I did find some cool images though like the one above.  We intend to call and get permission to shoot in a few of these places as the environment was image rich.  We also decided to wait to cooler weather.

It Was a Photo Sunday

At the crossing, Bedford, IN

Every now and then it is fun to go out and shoot on a Sunday.  I set out with my photo buddy and friend Debra and set a target of Spring Mill State park.  Never one to take the direct route I decided we would travel through some small Indiana towns.  We visited  a few towns but in Bedford, IN we made a right turn and just started driving and came into the industrial area of the town.  Kind of creep and as I post more images you’ll see why.  I could do a whole photo story on this town.  We started out photographing rusty gas tanks, then rotting doors, then we stumbled upon this gigantic junkyard and it looked very apocalyptic.  There were old cards, machines, and thousand of old military howitzer rounds.  Then we found giant abandoned factories and some very different neighborhoods.  In one neighborhood as we crossed the tracks we see this pickup just sitting in the grass, an old swing set and a sign next to the railroad tracks.  Behind us was a house with kids toys all over that sat only six feet from the tracks.  I shot an image above with the signs, truck and swing and then decided to enhance it a bit to give more the feel for what I was seeing there.  I’ll be working on more images this week.

Nature Takes Over

Nature Takes Over - Train Car - Noblesville, IN

Kind of cool how mother nature in all her ways eventually reclaims things and takes over.  Nothing is more evident than this shot of the side of s rusty train car with a small plant beginning to grow out of it.  Shot with a P65+ there is a load of detail in this shot. I made a large 30×40 inch print of this and it is stunning.

Different Angles

Palladium - Performing Arts Center- Carmel, IN

When I go out shooting I am always looking, moving my head, looking up, down and behind.  I love looking at things from different angles.  This is a shot of the new Palladium in Carmel, IN. It’s a magnificent building and I assure you that more images will appear here of this building.  This particular shot was made looking straight up.  I tried to show off the defining part of this building, carved limestone and columns.  Show with a 5dII with 17mm lens.  Then converted to BW in Capture One.
