The B&W Palladium

A few posts ago I published a color HDR version of the NEW Performing Arts Center – Palladium in Carmel, IN. Here’s yet another in a Black & White version. This building is so cool that I will be shooting it under different conditions for some time to come. Hope to start interior photos with the IQ 180 very soon.

I am heading to Ireland on Wednesday so the blog may be spotty as it will depend on internet connections where I am traveling. I’ll be leading a PODAS workshop and we will be visiting some magnificent locations. Look for images to be coming your way.

On My Way

Well the day has finally come. By the time you read this I will be on my way to Oregon for my oldest sons wedding How cool is that. I am very proud of what he has accomplished. A dedicated soldier in Army SF he has seen and done more than most of will ever do in a lifetime. He is marrying one of the nicest person I know and I know they will be very happy. This will be the first time in many years that my whole family will be together. My three sons, their mom and lots or relatives. It should be a great weekend. To start the weekend off here is another BW image from Moab. Shot with a Phase One P65+ on an APLA camera.

Moab Black & White

Since we begin our Moab adventure today I thought I would share a stitched image from last year. Arches are what Arches National Park are famous for. There a ton of arches to shoot. This one was shot at sunset with long shadows and beautiful warm light. The color image is spectacular but so is this B&W. Enjoy. More coming. Round Tower

This is a fun image. There is this place in Copenhagen and it’s called the Round Tower. It was built by some king or prince or whomever a long time ago so he could take his dates to the top of the city and show it off. He built it though so he could take his carriage and horses to the top. I’m sure this impressed the girls. In any case you can now walk up the tower with its brick path and beautiful plastered and curved walls. I had a lot of fun taking pictures here. This is one of many.

Creepy

There is this cool place I visit every year called Sunset Junk just outside of Saugatuck, Michigan. This a photographers’ paradise and you will see more images from this great place over time. This was shot of two mannequins sitting under old hair dryers with weeds growing around them. Shot on a Canon 5DII and then worked on in the iPhone.

Look Up

As promised another Chicago shot. This shot is of the Wrigley Building from the courtyard looking up. When you are out to take a picture in any environment you must turn on your content aware instinct. That means you must be looking everywhere, behind you, to your side, and up and down. You’ll be amazed at what you see especially if you train your eyes to see as a frame. This shot was simple, look straight up, catch the sun hitting the building and use the bridge to tie the image together. You can see more of my Chicago work at my Chicago Gallery On My Web Site.

Off To Chicago

So this is a week of travel . . . off to Chicago early on Monday. I’ll be working on scouting locations for the PODAS Architecture Photography workshop in July as well as a number of other meetings and an IQ180 roll out at ProGear. Drop me a note if you are going to be in Chicago. So, what is better than an iconic Chicago photo to start the week out. I’ll post a Chicago photo each day for a few days. This one is of the bean. I have hundreds of shots of this chrome monster and all are cool. I liked this B&W version.

Different Angles

When I go out shooting I am always looking, moving my head, looking up, down and behind. I love looking at things from different angles. This is a shot of the new Palladium in Carmel, IN. It’s a magnificent building and I assure you that more images will appear here of this building. This particular shot was made looking straight up. I tried to show off the defining part of this building, carved limestone and columns. Show with a 5dII with 17mm lens. Then converted to BW in Capture One.

I Love B&W

We get so caught up in color and how easy it is to make great color images in this digital age. Sometimes it is nice to re-visit B&W. This image was shot near Golden Bay in the South Georgia Islands. This was a magnificent day with blue skies, high winds, great clouds. The renticular clouds that formed over the mountains, the snow and layered lower level clouds all combine to make an excellent photo.

Fun In The Dunes

Happy Christmas Eve. This image is a shot done in the dune in Death Valley. I then messed with it flipping it and a doing a few other things to make sort of an abstract kind of image. It makes you stop and look. Mission accomplished.
