Lonely Fisherman

Newfoundland Fisherman

I love this shot.  This was done off the coast of Newfoundland while out whale watching.  We saw this guy in his dory like fishing boat and it just looked so cool.  I shot a number of images of this.  It was funny because we were not finding whales and we motored up this guy and he pointed in a direction and sure enough we found the whales where he pointed.  He was a crusty rough looking fellow.

Also, The blog may have fewer posts over the next three weeks.  I fly out to Austrailia tonight and then by this weekend to New Zealand to run a PODAS workshop there.  I’l post when I can.  www.podas.info if you’d like to follow the workshop.

Death Valley Sunrise Take 121

Dunes Area Sunrise, Death Valley

Sunrises, what a way to start the day.  The light is so dynamic and ever changing.  On the workshops I lead we get up for sunrises everyday.  No one complains as after a beautiful sunrise your day is a bit different in a very good way.  This one was shot a few weeks ago in Death Valley in the Dunes area.

A Little Color Today

Neon Boneyard, Las Vegas, NV

In only three days I head out for a 21 day trip that will take me to Australia and then New Zealand.  I’ll be leading a photo workshop in New Zealand for PODAS (www.podas.info).  So, it has been a busy week prepping all the details for this trip that should yield some fantastic images.  I’ll try to post images here as time and internet connections allow.  Todays image is from the Neon Boneyard in Las Vegas.  It is colorful and arty.  I like the simple composition.  If you visit Las Vegas you need to take  atour of this place.  it is where all the old signs in Vegas go when they die.

Making You Look

Boat in Saugutuck, MI

Sometimes it is fun to shoot something that you can recognize but had to stop and think about it for just a minute.  Maybe, this is one of those shots.  Did you know what it was when you first saw it?  It is a shot of a bow of a ship.  An old lake ferry boat located in Saugutuck Michigan, one of my favorite towns to visit.  Shot with a long lens to compress the perspective and cropped tight makes this image work.

Palouse Patterns

Palouse From The Air

The Palouse is a beautiful place but takes on a whole different looks from the air.  Today’s image was made from an airplane flying low in the Palouse to capture the texture and patterns of freshly harvested fields.  This shot I love because of the dark brown colors from fields that were also just plowed.  If you get the chance to go to the Plaouse make sure you take a one hour flight and you will be amazed.

Old Truck

Truck In Field, Palouse, WA area

Well, I am back from Death Valley and in less than a week leave for Austrailia and New Zealand.  Things are moving fast.  I have  a ton more Death VAlley images that I need to work on.  So, today you get a break and w ego back to the Palouse and an old truck in the field.  The Palouse had a lot of photo pops like this. You just drive around and find old homes, cars, tractors and trucks that just one day were parked and never moved again.

Death Valley Dunes

The Dunes, Death Valley

This has been a fantastically great trip for spectacular images. We have had good light and good weather and it has been a pleasure making new friends from China. Seems photographers from all over the world like the same things. This shot was done at the Dunes in Death Valley at dawn. When the dunes light up it is a blast as you keep seeing things you want to shoot.
