Since I did a pattern shot yesterday, why not texture today? So, here is a rusty art photo. I love rust and anyone following this blog knows that. This is rust from a ship in Argentina. Buenos Aires seems to be a good city for rust. This was found on an old boat being scrapped.
Our eyes have a tendency to feel good looking at certain things. One comforting thing our eyes enjoy are patterns. Patterns are all around us. be aware of things that you see during the day and you’ll see how often you see a pattern. This image is a pattern made up of the backs of seats from an outdoor theater in Chicago. Simple, definable and colorful. Works for me.
The Palouse and area of eastern Washington State that is big and just rolls on. It is such a beautiful landscape. This photo was shot in the spring. This summer during harvest I’ll be leading a workshop to the Palouse with two very well known photographers. Stayed tuned for the full details on this.
As I talked about earlier this week, Zion National Park allows for some great photography. A lot of it is that there are cliffs and the floor of Zion is bordered by steep hills and cliff. There is no true sky horizon. This shot illustrates how well the trees contrast against the cliff. Taken with a Phase One P45+ with a 150mm lens.
I love shooting tress and this shot was done in Zion National Park. Shot with a Phase One P45+ camera and a 150mm lens it brings out all the color and contrast to make the pine trees stand out. If you ever get a chance to visit Zion do so after October 31st. This park is most beautiful in early November or after a fresh coating of light snow.
Still getting my feet back on the ground. Amazing what ten days away can set you back on getting things done. This is an image I shot in Antarctica. Sometimes you just see the shot that is part of a much bigger subject. This is just a small portion of a large iceberg. I loved the way nature makes its own art and is evident here.
I am back from the successful Death Valley PODAS workshop. Now it is catch-up time on many fronts. Todays image was made in the Las Vegas airport waiting for the plane home. Kind of puts a spin on the whole Vegas things.
Yes, that is what they call tis place. This was shot at sunset during the PODAS workshop. What a rip this has been. I have many keepers and will be busy editing and working on images for weeks ahead. I am off to MOAB in a few weeks then a short time later Ireland. Lots of images and lots of workshops. I will keep this short as I must pack and get to the airport for the flight back to Indy. Hopefully I’ll be back to my regular schedule of a picture a day this week.

Yesterday when driving some of the group back to the airport I had to pull over to shoot this. Amazing skies yesterday, storms, and just beautiful no matter where you looked. Much more coming.
This week I am in Death Valley leading a Phase One PODAS photo workshop. We have had non-stop days and incredible good luck with our photo excursions. Tonight was no exception. We were coming back from an afternoon of photography in Rhyolite and Beatty when a front started to move in. We quickly hustled our way over the mountain pass and set up at the top of valley. Our view encompassed Death Valley and as you can see from the photo the light and clouds were exceptional. I love it when a plan all comes together. Tonight was one of those nights that defined why we love taking photos so much.
