Stormy Palladium

The Palladium, Carmel, IN

Everyone knows the Palladium in Carmel, In.  It’s part of the Perfroming Arts Center complex.  The other day we had these magnificent clouds and I decided to give it a shot.  Came up with this BW and a few good color images.  I’ll publish some color images later this week.  I like the look of the sturdy building with the storm clouds behind it.  It was done with five exposures blended together on PhotoMatix and HDR program used to blend different exposures together.  Fun stuff but can be too overused.  I n a case like this it works great.

San Miguel Alley

Alley, San Miguel, Mexico

A month ago I lead a Phase One PODAS workshop to San Miguel Mexico.  We had a blast and photographed a lot differently than we do at usual PODAS workshops.  We did a lot of medium format street photography.  This is an image I found in an alley that was also an above ground burial vault area.  It was so very pretty and I could resist shooting and sharing this shot.

Self Portrait In The Bean

The Bean in Chicago, self portrait

I am always looking for something different and when in Chicago a while back I arrived at the infamous bean real early in the morning when no one else was there.  I had the whole place to myself and I got many good images. This was a fun one taken inside the bean where reflections play off each other and it becomes very interesting.  This is my self portrait.

Waves And Ice

Iceberg and waves

One of the cool things about a trip to Antarctica is the sights you see when moving from one place to another.  what’s even better is if you are on a Russian boat with a crazy Russian captain who will take you up close to icebergs so you can get images like this.  Once again I say I like these images because they are not something you can go back and do.  They are not cliched.  I have some very cool and abstract images like this taken on these trips.

Algonquin Park Shore Line

Algonquin Park, Canada, Fall Color

I have been doing what every photographer should do is going through old images and archive them off to a second drive to be stored elsewhere.  Also, I am in the middle of a project for a massive web site change.  So, as I am going through my files I am finding tons of old but good shots. Here is one from 2004 shot on a Phase One P25 camera.  I love the colors, contrast, birch trees and how it all sits on a very steep hillside.

No Smoking Allowed

This is a weird place.  My friend Debra and I were out for an afternoon of Sunday shooting and came upon this scary place in Bedford, IN.  Actually the whole town was kind of creepy.  But, I saw rust and peeling paint so we had to explore and take photos.  we got good ones here – close-ups of peeling paint and rust.  I also found a number of other places in town that were great and scary.  The smell of gas here, the rusted takes, the rotting hoses all gave this place an apocalyptic feel.  I took the image into a few apps and enhanced that feeling even more.  Wonder what happens when a place like this prongs a leak.  The ground was oil soaked and smell of gasoline was everywhere.

Happy Easter – Sunrise In Antacrtica

Sunset - Sunrise - Antarctica

Happy easter Sunday.  It’s a great day here in Indianapolis today.  I wanted to share an image that is a sunrise in Antarctica.  Actually it’s the tail end of sunset.  See the sun really never goes away it just kind of gets real low and gives you four hours of sunset or two of sunset and two of sunrise.  Either way like a lot of things you see in Antarctica it is a constant reminder that there is something greater out there creating all of this each day.  The things I have seen on my three trips there as well other experiences has allowed me to feel closer spiritually to god and the magnificent things that have been created.  My photography allows me each day to capture a little piece of that and share it like I do here.

My Web Site Updated

A month or so ago I redesigned my web site.  It’s home grown and meant to be a place where I can share my images.  I don’t have a lot of time to keep it updated as my work with Phase One keeps me plenty busy.  However being a holiday weekend I did find dome time to add a new gallery and clean some things up.  If you haven’t visited my site, please do so.  You can CLICK HERE or go to www.kevinraberphotography.com .  Of course the best way to keep up with my latest images is to subscribe to this blog and or visit it each day.  I do my best to make a posting a day.  Thanks for visiting.

Rust and Decay

Rusty decaying ship, Buenos Aires, Argentina

Sometimes you take a photo and you wish you could go back in time and see what something looked like in its prime.  This shot was made of a rusted hull of a ship in Buenos Aires. From what I could tell this was a party boat of some type.  This image is of what I presume was the dining room.   As you can see all the wood and content is gone.  I just loved the look, geometry, and of course the rust.  This was hit in a very dangerous part of Buenos Aires, so while it was being taken I was always watching out for a mugger as well as the few friends that were with me were on constant guard.  I have a lot of rusty ship images from this trip and maybe I’ll post a few more in the near future.
