Street photography in New York City is always fun and usually quite productive photography wise. I enjoy it because what you photograph usually is not a cliche. It’s there for a short period of time and then is gone as time and the world moves on. This image was done on a staircase coming down from the Highline. I did a double exposure and caught reflections. A win-win I think.

Architectural Abstracts
I love cities for a lot of reasons, especially for all they offer a photographer in subjects that can be photographed. I take walks on the streets early in the morning and shoot people, buildings, light and shadow and even elements like door knobs. I usually work with long lenses. These were taken with a Fuji XT2 and a 100-400 zoom.
New York City Building Abstract
I simply love New York. Who doesn’t? If you are a photographer you can find a vast number of subjects to photograph. Lately I have been looking for the abstract in images of buildings. This is an image I made on the way back from a business meeting. The reflections and the scaffolding all lent to make a different kind of image.
Remember 9/11
As you saw in a previous entry I visited the 9/11 memorial recently. For me it was very moving and I have my reasons. As we prepare to remember 9/11 tomorrow I will share my latest image made at the Memorial. Please take a moment on 9/11 and remember where you were when that awful day began. Let’s not ever forget.
World Trade Center
September is here and on the 11th of each September I am reminded of a day that changed all our lives. I have my own reasons to be emotional about 9/11. let’s just say I was little too close that day. So, for years I avoided returning to Ground Zero. However, on a recent trip to NYC I took a deep breath and visited the location on a sunny warm day. All I can say is it was very emotional for me. I did a number of photographs during the visit. I’ll publish a selection here this month. This is the first one which is a double exposure and I feel says something. Hope you like it.
A Different View
There is no hiding it, I am an Apple fan. I love their products, have Apple stock (bought a number of years ago YES!), and I love their stores. It’s an amazing sight to see when visiting a mall or other location and to see an Apple Store. There are always a crowd of people in these stores. There are no cash registers, You can touch and play with any product you like and there are some real helpful people to answer questions. What is really great though is the bold architecture, especially at their super stores. the design is gorgeous with lots of glass and chrome. This shot was done at the New York store looking up under the glass staircase into the glass cube. The color shot os nice but for some reason I thought this B&W shot works best.
Long Island Boat House
I went through an HDR phase – High Dynamic Range photography. It’s fun and serves a purpose with digital photography as it allows you to show highlight and shadow detail in a contrasty lighting condition. Today too many photographers overuse it. For me, I kind of dabble in. I use it when it is needed which with Phase one cameras is not too often. In this shot taken at a boatyard where my son was painting the fishing boat he runs, I decided that I was going to sue it and I would go to the grunge look for the whole day. This is a shot of the little boat house. What’s cool is you can see inside the boathouse as well as detail in bright sun. I figured if I was going to do this I might as well exaggerate everything and bang here’s the shot. I have another one from this day I’ll publish at a later date.
