The next few weeks will have a photo a day from my recent fall colors trip to New England. This image of ferns with birth trees was made during a shoot in Acadia National Park. We were walking back to the car and I walked past this and after a few steps I turned around and composed and shot this image. It would have been so easy to walk by, but I saw the image of just the ferns and not the whole scene.

Tree In Pond In Maine
Just about two weeks ago I was working with Phase One doing a workshop in Bar Harbor, ME. Bar Harbor is a beautiful location and sit just outside Acadia National Park. The workshop group did an early morning shoot. The shoot took place on a pond and the group seemed to be glued to one spot. I decided to take a walk and in doing so I found this old tree on the shore of the pond. I messed around with the angles and finally lying down on the rock I got the angle as seen in this image. Once I looked at it on the computer I worked it a bit balancing out exposures of foreground and background to achieve the image shown here.
If You Don’t Succeed The First Time . . .
This is one of those iconic images of Scotland. It’s the famous Black Cottage. There is always a photographer or two there shooting this little cottage. They key is getting it at the right time of say with light and clouds. And, as was the norm for this trip to Scotland everything fell into place on the third try. This is a hrs place to shoot and requires a bit of post processing work to balance foreground and background and make it all look good. I have a large print of this and it is stunning. Shot on a Phase One IQ180 it has amazing detail.
Fall Color In Zion
Zion National PArk is a small park in comparison to some others but a lot of beautiful sights are tucked away inside this unusual location. I thought since fall colors are almost upon us that i would post a fall colors in Zion image. This was made about 2 years ago in the first week on November. The park just turns a beautiful color and no matter where you aim your camera you get a good shot.

The Classic Post Card Shot
This was shot in Scotland on a lake that some rich Scottish guy made just so it would remind his wife of a lake back in America where she was from. It’s one of those dream lakes. Perfect in so many ways. This shot was as if it was set up. Row boat, fall colors, subtle clouds. How could I go wrong? I was very conscious though of the ones and composition as I made this image. It works on many levels as a classic.
