Last evening i was visiting some friends in Marathon, FL. This is one of my friends that I have stayed in touch with from High School and she has been working for years in keys with Dolphin. On the way there the sun was setting and I had my oldest son Kevin Jr. with me. And at his urging we pulled over and did a number of captures of a most magnificent sunset. This one shot jazzed up a bit in SnapSpeed on my iPad. IT was a very spectacular sunset!

Chicago Dawn
Good morning! On PODAS workshops you can count on rising early to shoot the special light of dawn. This shot was done a little over a week ago while we waited for a sunrise to illuminate the Chicago skyline. It’s a pretty nice shot in color but I thought BW added some drama to it. This was shot from the Shed aquarium area. Good place to catch to city skyline.
The Bean
If you get up early enough you photograph the Chicago Bean without any other people messing up the shot. Then get a little creative in post processing and you can get a cool image. I am in Chicago doing a PODAS workshop on architecture. You can follow the workshop here.
Now In Hong Kong
Wow…what a trip this has been. A few weeks ago I was in Ireland. This last 10 days I have visited 4 cities in China. Now I am in Hong Kong to do my last presentation tonight. I hear we have 150 people registered. Should be fun. The photographers in China are very passionate and take their photography seriously. We have been promoting a photography workshop (PODAS) for the China market to be held in Death Valley this November. Should be a great time. Tomorrow I fly home, hopefully with an upgrade to business class. I arrived in Hong Kong after a very civilized train ride for two hours from China. I awoke this morning to the sunrise picture above. Sorry, it was shot on the iPhone and may not be the best. The weather is still 100 plus degrees. Can’t wait to get back to a more moderate 87 degrees. I get back with just a few recovery days before starting the PODAS Chicago workshop next week. This will be a workshop focused on Architectural photography. Should be fun. I’ll post again when I get home this weekend.
Blog Post Will Be Sparse
Hi, blog posts may be a bit sparse or non-existent until after July 8th. Seems China doesn’t like Blogs and FaceBook and thus I have to work around things to make posts. So, today is a picture I made in Mexico and I just like the balance and the feel. As far as my trip in China goes it is great. Super nice people, very fast paced schedule of interviews and programs. I have three more cities to visit and leave tomorrow morning for Chengdu. I’ll post images and details on my return. If I can I will make more posts as time and networks allow.
School House On A Bluff
The PODAS works shop is now over and oh what a workshop it was. It was a week of a lot of photography, good classroom sessions and lots of fun and laughs. It’s great when you can bring fifteen photographers together from all over the world and share a similar passion. Bidding farewell was bittersweet, but I am sure we all will meet again on a future PODAS workshop. This photo was made with a Phase One P65+ on an ALPA camera with an extreme wide angle lens (23mm). It is a another view from the one published the other day. If you ever get a chance to visit Ireland, you will find a beautiful country with very friendly people. Put it on your bucket list.
Ireland Is Fantastic
I can’t even begin to tell everything that has happened on this trip to Ireland. I am having a great time. The attendees on the PODAS workshop are having a blast and all of us are taking and making great photos. The image above is a 30 second exposure taken at Minard Castle Beach. See the Phase One PODAS blog for more details.
Gas Station In Middle Of No Where
While traversing the Palouse last week I came across many an odd things. It’s a beautiful area but there are just things there that stop you. I am driving down this country road in the middle of no where and then all of a sudden there is this Texaco gas station straight out of the fifties just sitting there. I thought I went through a time portal. This place had the signs, a water fountain, old cars, gas pumps and even a police car. So I spent some time shooting pictures of it. I’ll kake sure I take my PODAS workshop group to it.
Old Vegas
Old Vegas was neon signs and times gone by. A visit to the Neon Boneyard where old Las Vegas signs go when they die is a great experience. Enjoy this image done at the boneyard with a GH2 and a 5 exposure HDR in PhotoMatix.
I am in Long Island, NY for a few days working in the Phase One offices and having meetings. Pouring down rain. Dreary.
I Am In Palouse
I haven’t been as good as I would like in updating the blog. I have been criss crossing the country and spending a lot of time in airplanes and hotels with lousy internet connections. Until Sunday I am in the Palouse. The Palouse is a beautiful area in South eastern Washington state. Rolling hills of wheat. Hard to describe but if you visited you would see the beauty. I am doing a workshop with 30 people here in August and I am driving routes, visiting restaurants, arranging airplanes for aerial work etc.. You can learn more about this workshop by clicking here. This is a shot of a stand of trees in the Palouse. I’ll put another Palouse image up tomorrow.
