Hi, blog posts may be a bit sparse or non-existent until after July 8th. Seems China doesn’t like Blogs and FaceBook and thus I have to work around things to make posts. So, today is a picture I made in Mexico and I just like the balance and the feel. As far as my trip in China goes it is great. Super nice people, very fast paced schedule of interviews and programs. I have three more cities to visit and leave tomorrow morning for Chengdu. I’ll post images and details on my return. If I can I will make more posts as time and networks allow.

Man in San Miguel
So, the last few days I have been publishing people shots. I love walking the streets of new cities and catching the flavor both in the graphics and scenes of the city but also the people. This shot was made in San Manguiel Mexico during a wonderful two hour walk. I love this place so much that I will host a workshop through PODAS there in January. The lighting filtering through the trees just made this work not to mention the expression and face. I leave for a multi city CHina tour on Tuesday. while I have lots of Phase One business to do there, I am hoping for some street shooting as well as seeing some of Chinas magnificent sights. I’ll publish when I can.
Death Valley Storm
One thing you can count on in Death Valley is a variety of weather. You can be on one side of the mountains and it can be claar and on the other side you can rain and snow. This was shot made traveling between Beatty and death Valley and these storms were just coming across the planes. I like the pattern and slight backlighting of the rain coming down.
Old Gas Station
One of the things I love to do when visiting a new location is just to drive a dn look around and see what can be found. Near Skamania, Washington I found an old repair shop and shot a ton of pictures there, some of which I have already posted on this blog. Today is another of a gas pump of all things. I love the old red pump and junk around it. Shot with a GH2 and enhances a bit on my iPad with a few different apps. Kind of cool.
Death Valley – Storm Coming
One thing I love about photographing in the west is the wide open – big sky feel that you get. You can see so far and so high and you get a perspective that you can’t get when you live with obscured horizons and trees everywhere. This was shot in Death Valley on the road to Beatty.
The B&W Palladium
A few posts ago I published a color HDR version of the NEW Performing Arts Center – Palladium in Carmel, IN. Here’s yet another in a Black & White version. This building is so cool that I will be shooting it under different conditions for some time to come. Hope to start interior photos with the IQ 180 very soon.
I am heading to Ireland on Wednesday so the blog may be spotty as it will depend on internet connections where I am traveling. I’ll be leading a PODAS workshop and we will be visiting some magnificent locations. Look for images to be coming your way.
Neon Abstract
Another image from the Neon Bone Yard In Las Vegas. shot and did HDR post processing on all the images made here. Why? Because I made it my assignment. Sometimes when I go out shooting I give myself a challenge or assignment. This one was shoot 5 exposures of everything and put them together after. The results are interesting and lend to the abstractness of this wonderful place. Part of the secret in shooting at the Neon Bone Yard is shooting tight and shooting just elements. fun place – fun pictures.
Carmel Performing Arts Center – Palladium My Way
The other night after experiencing some dramatic storms the skies began to clear and just turn wonderful colors and they were so dramatic. My friend Debra grabbed me and we drove the block it takes to get to the Performing Arts Center. I jumped out of the car and began shooting away. I had grabbed my GH3 and shot in HDR mode – 5 exposures per shot. This technique allows my camera to shot over exposures opening up shadows and underexposures allowing highlights to be recorded. I then bring my images into Capture One and do perspective control (straightening lines on building so they don’t or do distort). Then I process he images to tiff format and run them through PhotoMatix combing all the exposures into one image. Then I took the image into photoshop and run them through a series of other programs. In this case I used a plug in called Topaz Adjust. So here is my artistic version of PAC at a dramatic sunset. I have more so look for them soon. Also, finished up some dramatic Moab B&W Images. Stay tuned.
Old Vegas
Old Vegas was neon signs and times gone by. A visit to the Neon Boneyard where old Las Vegas signs go when they die is a great experience. Enjoy this image done at the boneyard with a GH2 and a 5 exposure HDR in PhotoMatix.
I am in Long Island, NY for a few days working in the Phase One offices and having meetings. Pouring down rain. Dreary.
Sunrise Death Valley
Somedays you just hit it right. Today started off as a beautiful day in Death Valley. Great light and clouds. Then it just became windy and I mean thundering windy. It’s like standing in a giant hair dryer. The valley was covered in dust storms as far as you could see. Death Valley is apparently famous for this wind and heat. Anyway I am not big into sunrises like this but today is an exception.
