Antarctica 2023

I was very fortunate to be part of an Antarctica Expedition this past December.  I have been to Antarctica 25 times and I never get tired of it.  It’s obe of my happy places. I even got married there and have taken my wife 2 times.  This year I was part of a Muench Workshops trip.  We had 47 people on the trip aboard the Sea Spirit.  It was a luxury small ship and made traveling to Antarctica a joy.  I will soon publish a story on my main website photoPXL.com but for now just wanted to share some images from this trip.

Svalbard Austfonna Glacier

Austfonna Glacier, Svalbard
Austfonna Glacier, Svalbard

This was shot a few weeks ago as we traveled along the Austfonna Glacier.  This Glacier is huge and goes on for hundreds of kilometers.  Our plan was to travel along the whole edge of the glacier but we had to turn around.  The glacier had progressed out by quite a bit and the tracks needed for navigation would have taken us through the glacier.  It was good to see this glacier growing while so many others have been retreating.

This really is a site to behold and I felt privileged to photograph this magnificent wonder.

I Miss Greenland

If it wasn’t for the pandemic I would have just been returning from Greenland.  I do photo workshops and tours there every year except this one.  I miss Greenland and need to get back there.  I do have 2 back to back workshops scheduled there for next year.  You can find information for this workshop HERE.  By next year we are pretty confident that we will have a vaccine and be good to go.  These workshops are booking up so if interested please think about booking soon.

Antarctica 2020

This has been a strange year.  It all began with loads of optimism and has turned out to be something totally surreal.  The Worldwide Pandemic has changed everything.  But, before the Pandemic started I was lucky to get an Antratcia Workshop in and with Art Wolfe and Michael Durr as well as 28 guests.  We took this trip onboard The Magellan Explorer, a brand new ship run by Antarctica 21 the charter company I have been using for years.  Thie trip was an incredible experience and I wrote an article over on photoPXL.com with four videos and the trip log for the trip.  With this blog entry, I have included four photos but the article on PXL has a lot more plus the video will blow you away.  You can find the article at Antarctica Workshop Expedition 2020 – February 15-21, 2020.

Please check it out and enjoy the content and think about joining us in November 2021 when we take a 21-day journey to South Georgia Island and Antarctica.  This is the ultimate Antarctica Experience.

I Love Ice

Svlabard Iceberg
Svalbard Iceberg

Ice and more Ice.  why do I like ice so much?  This little ice formation I gound three years ago while photographing in Svalbard, Norway.  We were cruising in our Zodiacs shooting glaciers when we came upon this piece of ice which was most likely from the glacier itself.  I used a wide-angle lens and lower the camera close to the water to capture this image.   I was supposed to go back to Svalbard this August for a workshop but that has now been canceled due to COVID.
