Another Angle

London Bridge, London

Since I did something man-made and architectural yesterday, I thought I would do the same today.  welcome to the London Bridge and another angle of it.  This is a fun bridge to shoot.  IT has so many possibilities and is such a dominant icon of the London Landscape.  Getting close and looking up always gives a new perspective.

Always Fun – The Bean

The Bean, Chicago

Chicago is a fun city.  There is always something to shoot.  The challenge is shooting things that everyone else is shooting differently.  So, every time I go to Chicago I play and shoot and especially have fun shooting the Bean which is a highly polished sculpture.  It is highly reflective, seamless and just plain fun to shoot.  This is one of my attempts and I think it works.  If you are a regular follower you have seen other bean images and most likely in the future you’ll see even more on my blog.

Lonely Seal

Lonely seal and storm, Antarctica

Imagine if you will what the life of the seal in this picture’s life is like. Living in Antarctica, looney, cold, unpredictable and something always trying to eat you.  This shot was made on one of my trips to this amazing continent.  It shows pretty well what Antarctica is all about.  Giant, lonely and ever changing.  This was made on the way to an area called the Gullet.  We went through an ice flow and there this seal was with a storm in the background.  I just love it.

Antarctica Sunrise or Sunset

Antarctica Sunrise & Sunset - It was all the same

Antarctica offers a an environment of great photographs.  Dynamic, changing and never cliched.  You can be on shore or the deck of the ship and see and shoot just beautiful images.  This one was made one morning when I was on the deck all by myself.  And, I was presented with this shot of clouds, distant icebergs and the rising sun peeking through cracks in the sky.  Makes for some dynamic photos.  It then got darker and an hour later it was blue skies.  Things happen fast there and they are unpredictable.

Just Creepy

Creepy Old Man Doll, Photographed in odd store in KY

Every now and then I like to post something a bit strange.  On a recent trip returning from Alabama we stopped at an old junk store at an exit in Kentucky with a big dinosaur.  In this junk store were some very stance things.  Creepy things.  This was one of them.  Ugly dolls behind plastic.  If I was a movie script writer I could think of a bunch of horror type movies that could be inspired by these.  This shot is one of the old man doll.  Tomorrow I think I’ll go back to posting pretty landscapes.

A Different View

New York City, Apple Store

There is no hiding it, I am an Apple fan.  I love their products, have Apple stock (bought a number of years ago YES!), and I love their stores.  It’s an amazing sight to see when visiting a mall or other location and to see an Apple Store.  There are always a crowd of people in these stores.  There are no cash registers, You can touch and play with any product you like and there are some real helpful people to answer questions.  What is really great though is the bold architecture, especially at their super stores.  the design is gorgeous with lots of glass and chrome.  This shot was done at the New York store looking up under the glass staircase into the glass cube.  The color shot os nice but for some reason I thought this B&W shot works best.

Old Boat and Penguins

Whaling boat - Antarctica

On one of our landings in Antarctica we came across this old abandoned and falling apart boat and there were a few penguins next to it.  I shot quickly as the penguins were busy and had someplace to go.  I saw this image in my library the other day and decide i liked it but I should do something to give it an old look.  Using SnapSeed on the MAc I did some adjustments to get to this. Now the image kind of goes with the boat and the whole feel of being old and abandoned.

The City

Chicago Iron

I love shooting in the city.  Any city will do.  What’s fun is that it is a dynamic environment.  Weather, wind, light, people are always changing it.  I am like a hunter as I am always looking up and down and behind me.  I can see people I want to shoot or a building.  I love coming bak and editing images.  This image is one I like because it is of steel or maybe even old iron and it shows the city in the background.  Kind of symbolizes the whole thing.  The shot has a strong vertical and it balances the buildings in the background.

Lamar Channel

Lamar Channel, Antarctica

The Lamar channel is a very cool place to cruise through especially if you get to cruise it at sunset.  On my first Antarctica trip we cruised the channel at magic hour.  The sun was low and the moon was coming up.  The sky turned orange and purple and the water looked like it had a sheen of oil on it from the reflection.  Just an amazing experience.  This is a shot taken at one end of the channel.  I believe these two peeks are called Ulla’s Tits.  Must be a story behind it.

Sinking Ship

Sinking ship, Ushuaia, Argentina

On my first trip to Antarctica we traveled to the southern most city in South America, Ushuaia.  Pretty cool place and also the launching pint for a lot of trips to Antarctica.  While we spent the day waiting to board the ship a number of us went shooting in and around Ushuaia.  This boat I found in the harbor, kind of sinking.  I sent the image home and told people this is the boat we were taking to across the Drake Passage and some of my friends (at least the gullible ones) believed me.
