First, my apologies for not posting more photos and posts in general lately. Things have been moving at a fast pace on many fronts and a number of other projects took priority. Things are now getting a bit more manageable and I will try to get these posts back up to being posted on a more regular basis. Today’s photo is me having fun. This was shot on S. Georgia Island as part of our S. Georgia – Antarctica Photo Workshop trip last November. It’s an incredible feeling to be with wildlife and especially penguins in such an amazing environment. I feel truly blessed. Thank you, Debra (my wife) for catching this magic moment. I am so happy you were able to be part of the adventure.
Year: 2017
Prepping For New Show Opening
I have been very busy since returning from Iceland. One of the projects I have working on is prepping the new body of work Beeing Square – Seeing Double that will debut on April 28-29 at my gallery in the Indianapolis. More details soon. This is one of the images. The show will be at The Stutz Building in Indianapolis where I have a gallery and office. On Friday and Saturday, there will be live entertainment, food, and fun. Plus all artists in the building will have their doors open for visitors to view and purchase their work. I’ll give more details as we get closer.
Final Iceland Workshop Images
The Iceland 2017 Winter Workshop is over. My apologies for not posting more images while it was taking place. We were shooting non-stop from dawn to sunset, doing dinner and sometimes out looking for Northern Lights. Wasn’t much time at the end of the day. So, here’s the final selects for now. The workshop was fantastic. I am going to do more small group workshops in the future. It allowed us to do so much more. The group was the best and they all had talent and great eyes for composition. The summer workshop is almost sold out so if you want to see Iceland sign up today. I will not be doing any Iceland tours in 2018. Thank you, Daniel Bergmann my friend and the best guide in Iceland.
Luminous-Landscape Iceland Workshop Days 4 & 5
Day 4 & 5 of the Luminous-Landscape Winter Iceland workshop. Weather changed a bit as to be expected. Extremely high winds came in and that made photography challenging. We haven’t had real good light for sunrises or sunsets the past few morning but we are out there anyway. With the kind of lighting we were challenged with went withB&W for a number of today’s photos. We are here until next Thursday and have waterfalls on today’s agenda. More coming. A number of clients on this trip have been with me before on workshops. Always good to see and photograph with friends.
Luminous-Landscape Iceland Workshop Day 3
Day 3 of the Iceland Luminous-Landscape workshop with Daniel Bergmann. Today there are only 3 images. We woke up to snow, rain and low visibility. We went out anyway (because that is what you do in Iceland) got to the location we were going to shoot and you couldn’t see the mountain. Went to get a cup of coffee and then all of a sudden like it does in Iceland the rain and snow stopped and we could see the mountain. We had fun taking photos for an hour and then the wind picked up and it down poured. Typical Iceland weather. It rained the rest of the day so we worked on images. One of the images is a 10 exposure stitch and the other 2 are just straight shots. It was a black and white kind of day. More tomorrow. Hope you are enjoying these.
Luminous-Landscape Iceland Workshop Day 2
Absolutely amazing is all I can say for the last 48 hours. I have been to Iceland dozens of times and I can’t remember the last time I shot so much in such a short period. Weather helps and we have been blessed with great weather. All that is supposed to change by tomorrow. We did an ice cave, glacier walk, glacier canyon, and more bergs on the beach. The group is small and allows us to do more together as a group. Great people with us on this trip. Lots of fun. More tomorrow.
Because someone asked. All images have been shot on a Sony a7r II with various G-Master lenses.
Iceland Workshop Day 1
Starting My Trip In Iceland
I’m starting a 12 day workshop in Iceland. It’s a smaller workshop than many I have done. Good for Daniel and me as we can work closer with clients. My goal is to make Iceland look different than all the tourist and iconic images being made my a ton of tourists. So today I took images of the Sun Sculpture and created these. Part of my Being Square – Seeing Double series. And there were a ton of tourists there so this was one way to work around them.
Little Girl On The Streets
Wherever I go I love to walk the streets and take pictures. This shot of this beautiful little girl was made in Buenos Aires. She was playing tunes on her toy accordion with a cup at her feet for tips. Her eyes, posture and look say so much. (yes, I gave her a big tip, and her smile was so big after that). It’s hard for many people to shoot people on the streets and obviously many time you have to use good judgment as well as have a pocket of local currency with you to tip the subjects.
Iceland This Saturday
I’m not sure why, but every time I prepare to go to Iceland I get excited. I have been to Iceland dozens of times. Photographed just about every location there is and watched the country change over the last 14 years. It used to be you could go anywhere in Iceland and not see a soul. You could be the only photographer on a beach or at a waterfall. Well, these days there are tour buses and lots of Asian tourists that have no regard for anyone else or even the landscape they are fortunate enough to see. And, there are other photographers too who will walk right into your shot with no regard for anyone else. Yes, this happens everywhere and not just Iceland. Kind of a sign of the time. So, I have decided that this year is the last year I will go to Iceland for a while. It’s time to explore other areas and there are plenty of them. I plan to have a good time this trip and then again this summer. We have god groups put together for each trip, I am going to try to do a lot of long exposure work and hopefully catch some northern lights night like we had in Norway. So, stay tuned and I’ll share images as I go.
