On one of my visits to Death Valley I visited Scotty’s Castle. This is a pretty cool castle located in the middle of the desert. Really hard to believe some guy a hundred years ago built a place like this. This image was made lying on my back and shooting straight up the circular staircase. Then I messed with it in pst processing.
Month: August 2013
Palouse Pano
Boy, I am having a run on the Palouse. Maybe it is just because I love this region so much. Also, I am prepping the launch of a workshop in the Palouse next August. This is a great example of just how simple of a landscape the Palouse is and why simple works so well.. Shot with a Phase One IQ180.
Palouse Trees
The Palouse region, in Southeast Washington is all rolling hills and manicured fields. But a little ways way is an area of flat lands where this image was made. I ike the look of the trees and fields as well as the sky. It just works.
More Rickets
Yes, another waterfall in Rickets Glen, Pennsylvania. As I have said in previous posts, this is a very cool place to shoot waterfalls.
Anchors Away
This ship is no longer in Saugatuck where the image was taken. It was a landmark there for a long time. A year ago the ship was moved to a new loaction where it will be restored and opened as a museum. I have always had fun shooting this boat and have a lot of good images of it. This one I like because of the symmetry and the way the light plays on the hull.
Number 99
This is a motorcycle with a story. And, you will have to visit Jerry, see previous post a day or so ago to learn the story. I have a few other shots made of the displays Jerry has in his shop and you’ll see them sometime soon.
Rickets Glen Falls
I have posted other images here of waterfalls. Seems I shoot a lots of them. I have also posted images from Rickets Glen here. This place is in Pennsylvania. Great place. There are around 27 falls along two different trails. So, it is a 2 or three day trip to get the images and do it right. This is one of the falls there. I may be tempted to drive back there again this year.
Jerry
On my Sunday drive we stumbled upon Sheridan, IN. Very interesting town in so many ways. A photographers dream too as I made a series of good images there. We found the Vintage Motorcycle Supply store and it was open. The Owner Jerry Ficklin was a real nice guy with a lot of stories to tell. Debra and I photographed in the store for well over an hour listening to Jerry’s tales and just having fun. I’ll definitely visit Jerry again. Count on seeing more images from his store too. Shot was made with the Nikon D800e and wide angle lens.
Rusty Shit
From the same train yard as yesterdays image was made comes a pile of rusty shit. I love rust and decay. This pile of old rusty things was art in itself. I popped the image in post processing and I love depth and gritty feel it gives.
Sunday Drive Franfort, IN
Every now and then my friend Debra and I get in the car on a Sunday morning and decide if we are going to go North, South East or West. Once decided we head off to that direction with the ipad for mapping and we target backroads and small towns. We are looking for the unusual, the abandoned, the rusty and the interesting people that present themselves alone the way. There is a lot of “did you see that?”, or “stop”, “turn around”. Last Sunday was a gold mine for us as we visited a few towns within driving distance of home. This image was made a gigantic train yard that has seen its better days in Franfort, IN. This old abandoned train round house. I like this image as it kind of shows loneliness and the clouds and BW treatment add to the drama. More images will be coming form this train yard.
