This is a shot made in Olympic National Park. One of my favorite National Parks, mainly because there is so much diverse landscape to shoot. I made this on Hurricane Ridge and off of a fire road I ventured to travel on. The sky was so blue that day and the color looked so incredible. Once I switched it over to BW though the image just jumped. Shot with a Phase One P65+.

The Wall
This is one of the canyon walls in Zion National Park. Amazing colors and growth. I love Zion as there is so much to shoot and it is such a small park. As I said in a previous post I have a number of Zion images that will be seeing some attention. This was shot early November a few years ago. Shot with a Phase One P65+ it has amazing micro detail. The big print of this image is just gorgeous.
More Zion
The last week in October and first week in November is a great time to visit Zion National Park. The colors are changing, the weather is great and the light is beautiful. I have been working on some of my older files and the last few evenings I have been doing Zion images. So expect more. This was shot with a P45+ and a Phase One camera.
Waterfall Through Trees
It feels so good to be shooting and especially when you are in the woods outdoors and stumble upon a shot like this. This was at Rickets Glen in Pennsylvania. Lots of waterfalls there. This shot was taken through the trees (obviously). I wanted to combine the fall colors with the waterfall equally. I really love the feel of this image and how it is simple and pleasing to look at. Shot with a P65+
Dead Trees Moab
I love traveling the back roads. So, after shooting to my hearts content in Moab, I decided it was time to travel some back roads. These involved crossing over a few small mountains. This field we found doing this trip and the sun was beginning to set giving nice light. Shot with an IQ180 this image is super sharp and has great color tonal range.
Doorways and Tree
While shooting at an old abandoned silver mine, I came across this doorway that lead to another doorway that framed a tree in an old room perfectly. I love the colors and the whole two dimension, three dimension thing going on. The image is sharp as a tai being taken with an IQ180 camera. On a print you can see all the detail on the tree.
Hanging On
On one of my trips to Bryce Canyon I had one of those magic moment light sunrises. Snow and this golden light and so much to shoot. This is one shot. I like the tree with the softer focus of the hillside in the background. Because this was short with a Phase One camera there is immense detail in the shot. The roots clinging to the rocky surface and the try trying to defy the elements. Love it!
Hurricane Ridge Weathered Tree
I keep coming back to Olympic National Park. Have done a number of trips there and I will be leading a workshop there this fall. While most people see this ridge called Hurricane Ridge from the parking lot, I decided to see a ridge I saw off in the distance and thus traveled a very rough road out to a farther ridge. along the way on the top of the ridge were testaments to the battle trees fight to make their stance on this ridge. There are small hearty evergreens with deep roots and then there are the ones like in this photo that fought the battle and lost. Now they are at the mercy of the winds and nature and while dead take on a whole new look as natures wears them down.
Another Olympic National Park Tree
After my brief and fat trip through Olympic National Park I came away thinking that this place has the coolest trees. This is another moss covered tree. The light was hitting it just right. Finding these trees is like hunting. You walk through a wooded area looking for a good tree and good light and hope you find them both at the same time. I was lucky on this one and the fallen the on the ground also helps set a horizontal line in the shot. I like it.
New Tree – ONP
I am getting excited about the possibilities for a workshop in Olympic National Park (ONP). Even though is has been a lousy few days of weather, I managed to get some shots in today. You’ll see some more in the coming days. I plan on doing a PODAS workshop in ONP this fall – early September. I’ll keep you posted on when. This tree was in a meadow near Lake Quinault. It works because the mountains in the background were cloud covered and the light was just a lovely diffused light. I shot some cool waterfall images too.
