Black & White Waterfalls In Iceland

FB-BLG_DSC2680-1-ckint-bwI worked this image a lot in Photoshop and in color it looks real nice.  But, as I do with many images I decided to try it as a BW image and I liked it.  BW offers a lot and somewhat a nostalgic feel.  I have been going through the image catalog for 2015.  I shot 55,000 images this year.  Not one of my largest numbers but up there.  I so often have no time to work on images and thus get far behind on image editing.  The Holidays has allowed me a little time to catch up and as result I have several weeks worth of images to share on the blog.  Hope you enjoy this image and more to come.

Happy New Year.  This is my last entry for this year.

Raber Foss Iceland

There is a story about this set of small and fast moving waterfalls in Iceland.  My friend and Icelandic guide Daniel Bergmann always drove by these falls which are located right on one of Iceland’s main roads.  Finally I made him stop and I shot my first set of images of these falls.  One each of my many subsequent trips to Iceland it became a tradition to stop here with the workshop groups we were leading.  Eventually he just nicknamed these falls after me as he didn’t know the real name of the falls.  This is a multi shot pano of the falls.

Another Iceberg On The Beach

Iceberg Beach, Iceland
Iceberg Beach, Iceland

So, you may be wondering why I have been posting so many Iceland images.  The simple reason is I am enjoying the holidays and during some spare time that I normally don’t have I’m revisiting a lot of the trips I did last year and finally re-working the and editing the images.  Iceland was big trip.  Lots of incredible images were taken.  I have a lot from the helicopter which will soon grace these pages.  This one was done on the famous iceberg beach.  The challenge with the iceberg beach is shooting something different from the 1000’s of images that are shown from there.  I don’t claim this is different, just something I liked.  On the last trip I did many at this location using the iPhone so I could get something different. I’ll posts those someday too. This was shot with the Nikon D800e at 1.6 seconds.

A More Subtle Iceland

Vik Beach, Iceland
Vik Beach, Iceland

Yesterday I posted a dramatic moment in Iceland.  They can be that way sometimes there.  This image is a bit more typical of Iceland.  Made at Vik a black beach, it was done at dusk and the light was gray with a hint or color on the horizon.  The beach is very large and there is a nice surf that rushes up onto the stones of the beach.  By dragging the shutter I was able to get the magical look to the surf and a hint of movement in the clouds.  This is one of those images you need to see as a print.

Sunrise In Iceland

Sunrise at Jökulsárlón, Iceland
Sunrise at Jökulsárlón, Iceland

One of the things that is fun about Iceland is the unpredictable weather.  When we woke up the morning that this image was taken it was raining hard and deep overcast,  It’s one of those morning that would have been easy to say let’s go back to bed.  The time was around 4AM.   Being the adventurous photographer that we are we decided to go for it and drove the 20 minutes to the Jökulsárlón lagoon.  If you have never heard of this place or visited it you are really missing an experience.  I have visited this location numerous times and it has always yielded a special photograph.  This morning was no different.  The sun had come up behind the clouds and all of a sudden the clouds started to part and this amazing color came through.  Contrasting with the blue of the icebergs I was able to get a number of nice images.  This was one of them.

Double Exposure

Pipe Organ Double Exposure, Iceland
Pipe Organ Double Exposure, Iceland

I published a church photo from Icelanda few days ago.  This is a shot I made inside the church.  Using the double exposure feature in the Hipstamatic program I played around with doing double exposures.  I’d shoot one and then look at the subject and tried to envision how it would look on top of the image previously shot.  I did a number of images of the pipe organ and keyboard of the organ.  This is one of the shots.  Made with the iPhone.

Church In Iceland

I have visited this unique church in Iceland many times.  On my recent trip I visited it again and decided to shoot it with the iPhone and Hipstamaticapp.  Iceland has some beautiful churches.  Most are small and quaint but a few are really cool the way they are designed.  This is one of them.
