Death Valley – Wall

Tire and Bedspring, Death Valley JunctionBack to the blog after a few days of traveling and having some surgery.  I had a bit of basil cell cancer removed from my face and thought it would be a cake walk but by the time I was through, I now have like 30 stitches on my face.  I am told the scar won’t be bad.  At my age a few scars are good to have.

The photo today was taken in Death Valley.  There is an old abandoned Borax mine in Death Valley junction that I had a blast shooting at.  This is a shot taken with a Phase One P65 and then played with a bit on the iPad.  I like the whole feel.

Speaking of Death Valley, I am leading a workshop there in April.  Visit www.phaseone.com/podas for details.

Copenhagen Street

Copenhagen Violin Player

I love Copenhagen and love walking the city. The city has so much to offer. As a photographer one thing I enjoy is a form of photography called street photography. This was made famous by photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson. He wandered the streets of cities shooting street scenes and became famous because of it.  In my travels I make it a point to wander the streets of the cities I viist and shot the people and life. The image today was taken on a walking mall in Copenhagen. On every visit I make to Copenhagen I always see this same guy with a violin playing on the street. He always has a big smile and he seems to be everywhere. Anyway, this is a shot of him that says it all.

Statue Of Liberty

New York, New York - Statue Of Liberty

Okay, there is this technique called HDR – High Dynamic Range imaging and it can be cool but overdone.  But it is fun.  This is a shot from a series I did in Las Vegas using HDR techniques. It is obvious what it is and it photography with a Canon 5dII at New York, NY Hotel. Then I messed with it doing HDR and then once it was in my gallery on the iPhone I played with it some more to make this shot. It’s all about having fun using the tools a photographer has today.

A Little Infrared Fun

Parkes Radio Telescope - Australia

While on my trip to Australia I had the unique opportunity to travel across Australia on a multi-day road trip back to Sydney from the outback.  Along the way my traveling buddy (mate as they say in Oz) stopped in at a place called Parkes.  This is the location of a giant radio telescope.  This was featured in a movie a while back called “The Dish”.  We thought it offered some cool photo opps.  So we took the Phase One Achromatic+ back (a 39 megapixel) BW digital back and using special filters and photographed the dish using infrared.  This is a fun way to shoot as you are shooting reflected energy and not light.  Hard to explain but the effects especially in landscape photography is pretty cool.  Hope you feel the same way.  To learn more about this cool digital back… click here.

Antarctica Iceberg

South Of The Circle Iceberg

Having been to Antarctica three times I have managed to accumulate a massive amount of photos.  This region is one of the most beautiful places to visit on the planet.  While the voyage there can be quite rough the images are quite beautiful.  Today I present you an iceberg.  And, I have a ton of beautiful icebergs so this won’t be the last you see of these.  I made a decision to work this one in black and white.  There is just something about the way this piece of ice just pokes into the sky.  Add the amazing sky behind it and you get this image.  If you want to visit more of my Antarctica images you can CLICK HERE to be taken to my Antarctica web gallery.  Have a great Black Friday.
