Antarctica when it gets mean is really mean. Here you can see a storm approaching and giant icebergs in the foreground. Taking pictures in Antarctica is an amazing experience. Photo rich environment doesn’t come close. Dynamic ever changing. This image was shot with a long lens 200mm on a Canon 5dII.

Tanks In Antarctica
Hard to believe that in such a pristine place you can find tanks. In antarctica on one of our stops we came across these tanks with aircraft rotary engines in a field near an abandoned US Research base. You must know if you are a regular follower that I have a thing for rust. And, of all places in this snow field I got my full dose.
Boats
While in Ushuaia one of the southern most cities in South America I came across this shot. Two boats and old life boat and some other boat. Not sure if they are related but the shot works with foreground and background. It is kind of ghostly so I messed with the image somewhat to give it a different look.
Keep Thinking COLD
We are having another 100 plus degree day in Indianapolis today. And, one more forecasted for tomorrow. So, let’s enjoy a shot from the Gullett in Antarctica where is was cold and beautiful. This was one of the most magical places I have ever visited. Mirror flat water reflecting snow covered mountains. Truly a once in a lifetime view.
Think COLD
I live in Indianapolis and like a lot of the US we are just dying in a major heat wave that will not go away. Temperatures are forecasted in the 100 plus range for the next two days. So, I am sending cold thoughts and will publish nothing but ice shots until this weather breaks. This is an iceberg from Antarctica.
More Icebergs
My friends say I should do a book or exhibit on all my iceberg images. Sounds like a good idea and it will go on my task list, which is rather long. This page was from Antarctica (obviously) and I just love the way it works. Foreground, iceberg in the background, and then the mountains and horizon light far off. This is a very strong image and one of my favorites. It is also a very strong B&W image and I have that one over on my Facebook page.
Waves And Ice
One of the cool things about a trip to Antarctica is the sights you see when moving from one place to another. what’s even better is if you are on a Russian boat with a crazy Russian captain who will take you up close to icebergs so you can get images like this. Once again I say I like these images because they are not something you can go back and do. They are not cliched. I have some very cool and abstract images like this taken on these trips.
Happy Easter – Sunrise In Antacrtica
Happy easter Sunday. It’s a great day here in Indianapolis today. I wanted to share an image that is a sunrise in Antarctica. Actually it’s the tail end of sunset. See the sun really never goes away it just kind of gets real low and gives you four hours of sunset or two of sunset and two of sunrise. Either way like a lot of things you see in Antarctica it is a constant reminder that there is something greater out there creating all of this each day. The things I have seen on my three trips there as well other experiences has allowed me to feel closer spiritually to god and the magnificent things that have been created. My photography allows me each day to capture a little piece of that and share it like I do here.
Twins
Going through some of my images the other day I came across this image from one of my trips to Antarctica. What I like is how the icebergs matches the same look as the mountains behind. Antarctica is so pretty and full of many surprises like this. I have so many iceberg pictures. MAybe time for an Iceberg book.
Everyone Loves Penguins
Today is the start of a great Sunday. Going out shooting somewhere today. This is the kind of day I just load my Jeep Cherokee with a tripod and cameras and start driving. what will I find? Where will I go? Who knows. As far as the picture for the day, well it is a penguin. I came across this one when updating the new iPad. Though it would be fun. I have hundreds of penguin shots and I love them. These little guys are always busy and seem to have a mission. This guy was off and running somewhere, totally focused on his mission.
