Ok, there are going to be a lot of iceberg images over the coming weeks, many of them in Black and White. This is a shot of two icebergs and I like the way they formed the composition. The gray sky and the blue of the bergs works well together.

Moon Setting Lemaire Channel
Well we had a great moonrise the night before. We started to transit the Lemaire Channel and the moon was setting. It was an a amazing trip through the channel.
Moonrise #12 Antarctica
This year like all years when I visit Antarctica there are special defining moments. The defining moment this year was getting married on a beach with penguins and 60 close friends. Quite an adventure. This moonrise was another define moment. And, like a lot of images you’ll see this year I am doing lot of B&W. This is moonrise #12 of a lot of moonrise shots. It was quite a moment to see this moon rise at the same time the sun was setting. Quite a night. Shot with a Sony A7 II and Tamron 150-600mm zoom.
Unique View Of The Lemaire Channel Antarctica
One of the places almost everyone who visits the Antarctica Peninsula visits is the Lemaire Channel. This is narrow channel with huge cliffs and mountains rising from either side. It has never disappointed me on any of my visits. On my last trip I wanted to show the channel in a different way. So, once we were in the middle of the channel I shot 12 exposure while panning the camera from a moving ship. I later stitched these together in Photoshop. This is the result where you can see both openings of the channel. I am presenting a Color and BW version for your viewing pleasure.
Beautiful Ice
Icebergs are one of my trip loves. I love photographing them because in a short time the only thing that remains is a photo. This photo was made in Antarctica this past November. I under expose the image and then bring it back in my raw processor to give it drama.
Ice Is Nice
I just love ice. And, there is not better place than Antarctica to photograph icebergs. This one with the dark sky caught my eye and lens.
Humpbacks and Icebergs
There is nothing better than being amongst some amazing icebergs and have a whale sighting. For this image we were cruising in the iceberg graveyard when a humpback surfaces and the image was made even better by the iceberg background. This is what visiting the Antarctica region is all about.
Sunset, Oh Yeah
Ok, it’s a sunset. But, it’s a cool sunset. Antarctica has lovely sunsets. They last a long time and have amazing color. This was one shot from the ship after we finished an amazing zodiac cruise through the Iceberg Graveyard. A great way to end what had been a 20 hour day of photography.
The Best Rust
I am a rust addict. Ok, I have come clean. There is some attraction to rust that makes e seek it our. Rust has its own story. It is the decay of something that was. I find rust everywhere and love the texture and colors. It’s almost like an abstract. The best rust is in Antarctica and this trip I did a lot of rust shots on Deception Island. You’ll see more posted here. You can always use the tag on the right and click on rust to see all the rusty pictures.
Sunrise In The Lemaire Channel
One of the essential places to visit in Antarctica is the Lemaire channel. This is passage that takes about an hour through a narrows and it is just spectacular especially at dawn or sunset. This was a beautiful start to what turned into a 20 hour day of photography on my recent trip to Antarctica.
