Today was one of those gray days you get sometimes in Iceland. Cold, and very strange dull light. In the afternoon though we went to shoot a small glacier bay. I need to get the name of it but it was not as large as some in Iceland. I parked myself at the top of this small overlook and shot a bunch of images. I tried a wide angle and even a long lens. Then I decided to try an 80mm lens and take 6 images and then stitch them together. Bingo, I think it worked. Sometimes when you are out shooting you just have to stay in one place and wait and mess around with things until you nail it.

Stalker Castle
I shot most of my images with the Phase One camera and digital back. However, I do have a few other cameras that I carry with me not to mention my trusty iPhone. This image was made on the Olympus OMD 5 using the dramatic art effect. I really liked it so I thought it would be fun to share. This is shot in Scotland at Castle Stalker.
Wide Angle Skyline Arch
Another image from an absolutely amazing trip to the Moab area. This shot was made at Sand Arch in Arches National Park. I used a Phase One IQ 180 camera and a new 28mm LS to create it. Using depth of field and selective focus I was able to keep everything sharp fro the foreground to the background. Add great light and it was not hard to get a good image. I used Capture One to add drama to the image and adjust the brightness of the tree trunk.

One Of My Favorites
This is one of my favorite shots. It was made in Australia which should be obvious on one of the PODAS workshops I lead. Ken Duncan who is a miracle worker in his own right asked this beautiful girl if she would be in our picture and she agreed. During the time I was taking this shot flies were buzzing around and she was looking uncomfortable. Then all of a sudden she just took this amazing pose and I shot it. Two seconds later she was looking somewhere else. Sometimes it just works, have patience.
Back From China – Back To Business
After 24 hours of flying and airports I am back in the US. What a great but tiring trip. The trip was to promote PODAS workshops to the Chinese market. Already press clippings and interviews are appearing. Even though they are in Chinese, it is fun to see images and such of PODAS and the attention it received. I made sore terrific new friends on this journey and I do hope to see them again soon. Many thanks to everyone there for the great hospitality and interesting meals and the suicidal taxi cab rides. What an adventure. Now it is back to business and regular blogging. I have three day before I start the next PODAS workshop in Chicago, so there is lots to do. Today though will be catch up, grocery shopping, reading mail, paying bills and getting over jet lag. Today’s image was done in San Miguel, Mexico and I just liked it so I am sharing.
Ghostly Bike Rider
Sometimes in the strangest places you find the strangest things. Thus was this photograph made in Death Valley, where actually in this case right outside of Death Valley. This was photographed in at a small art gallery where all the sculptures are part of the environment. But you have to admit, this is pretty creepy. I used a wider angle lens from a low angle and tried to make this image different.
Back To Boats
A few days ago I posted a photo done on a small boat. From the same series I post this image. The image was shot with a 5dII and then imported into my iPhone gallery. Then one evening I was messing around with a new app (they are so addicting) and the end result is what you see here. Light, shadow, angles and textures all work. Hope you enjoy it.
I’m Back
I am back from the Australian adventure. It was a great PODAS workshop in Australia on so many levels. After the workshop Bruce Pottinger and I drove back to Sydney ona very long road trip across Australia. I got to see parts of Australia people don;t get a chance to see. In the coming days I’ll have photos from the trip and others as I get back into the groove here. In the meantime this si a shot of me photographing sunset at Ayers Rock with a glass of wine….very civilized.
Australia Gum Tree
Seeing how today I am now in Glen Helen in the middle of the Australia outback I thought an Australian photo would be in order. This image I loved when I saw it. A simple gum tree with its bright white bark set against the red cliffs in Ormiston Gorge.
I have set my blog to automatically post for the next few days as I will be out of touch bu phone and internet. It’s good to get away. You can also follow the workshop I am leading at THE PODAS BLOG.
