Many times as photographers we get stuck on seeing the big scene. yet, under our feet or in front of us is art and we just need to train our eyes enough to see this art. These images today are abstracts found in a bigger scene. One image is a wall where numerous posters have been applied and torn off. The other two images are from peeling paint on rusty truck found near the Palouse region in the state of Washington. I’m always looking for abstracts whether it is man-made or natural. You need to keep your eyes open and always be looking.

Lofoten Again
I had the opportunity this past winter to visit Lofoten, Norway. It’s an amazing place. Almost like a fairy tale. Tall mountains, big skies, and gorgeous coastlines. I won’t lie to you, but it was crowded with photographers. Plus it was hard to photograph there. There aren’t pull offs on the roads and there is no shoulder, just gullies. We saw a lot of people who slid off the road into these gullies. However, if you didn’t mind walking and parking a bit of a hike away you could find locations like the one in the picture above. I did a 35-second exposure for this shot. It blurred the sky and smoothed out the water. While I really loved the location I probably won’t visit there again as the crowds of photographers makes it hard to enjoy.
Just How Far Did I Travel
I use many tools when I travel. One of these is the in air app. At the end of each year, they send me a video that shows all my air travel. I watch this and remember all the flights, delays, airports and once I got there the fun.
The Water Plant
In Buffalo, NY there is a cool old turn of the 20th-century water plant. It’s ana amazing structure and a privilege to shoot inside it. I have been there many time and find all sorts of things to shoot as well as interesting compositions. This image was made with my iPhone using an app that does double exposures. Lots of fun to shoot this way. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. That is also the fun. This one I like a lot. I made a sepia tone image and a regular one. Which one do you like best?
Beach Party
South Georgia Island is a great place to shoot King Penguins. I did was sit on the beach by the water and these fellows came over to say hello. It’s amazing how curious and friendly these little guys are. This was shot with a Fuji XT-2 and 10-24 wide angle zoom.
Ice Cave Ceiling
One of our highlights on the Iceland trip was visiting an Ice Cave. Not only was the experience of getting to the cave fun but the cave was pretty cool too. We had to use big four-wheeled drive vehicles to get these and then once there get into all sort of gear. The light inside was all blue as the ice filters away all other light, So, here is a photo of the ice cave ceiling and one of me looking like I am straight out of the Blue Man Group.
A Year Ago On February 5th
It was one year ago I got married on the beach of Neko Harbor in Antarctica. I was single for a long – long time. I was busy raising kids and then galavanting round the globe doing photography. Then I was lucky enough to meet Debra. She is an amazing woman with he biggest heart I have ever seen or felt. Plus she gets me. She loves photography as much as I do and she like playing on computers. We get a long like two peas in a pod as they would say. So, one day after dating for like 5 years I told her if she got a passport I would take her to Antarctica and marry her. Because she was born in Germany to US parents while they were in the service it was hard to find the birth certificate paperwork. Well guess what, one day the passport showed up and being a man of my word we headed of to Antarctica on one of my photo workshops there and had the most incredible wedding on a beach with 60 photographers and hundreds of penguins. I can’t even describe how cool that was and how memorable the event was. Well this week I am taking Debra to Hawaii for a warm weather one year anniversary. So, when I have internet and some time I’ll be posting from Hawaii and the islands on=f Maui and Molokai.
Bringing In The Wheat
The Palouse is one of my favorite places to photograph. If you are a regular to my blog you know I have many images made there. I love the harvest time which usually takes place in early August. This past year it was very dry and the harvest came very early. The Palouse suffered a very hot summer and thus it was dry and dusty. This image show the harvest and the dry dusty wind.
Dry, Dusty and Hot
I have been in the Palouse the last few days shooting with the new Sony a7r II. What a beautiful camera! This camera will be the camera of the year. It has 42.6 mega pixels and capture gorgeous files and videos. I’ll have more on this on the Luminous-Landscape site when we do our review. This image was made at sunset in a very dry and dusty Palouse. The farmers have had a hard year and the harvest was 4 weeks early due to such dry weather. This shot was made from the highest point in the at sunset and I thinks says very well what the Palouse is like this year.
The Bell House
I am heading to NYC Today and then on Wednesday head to Portland and from there out to the Palouse. In the Palouse I have a favorite location to shoot sunset from and it is the fields and rolling hills behind what I called the Bell House. The owners of this home have passed away but the sons maintain it. Great and really nice people. I made a stack of photos to give them when we visit next week.
