Woman In San Miguel

Woman Begging in San Miguel, Mexico

This has been an incredible week with the PODAS workshop.  I head home today only to leave on Wednesday for Scotland.  I tend to move around a lot.  One of the things that is fun to do is shoot what we photographers term street photography and San Miguel is perfect for this.  So much going on.  This shot was made near the ATM machine of a woman who is obviously begging.  You see this a lot in Mexico.  Sad.  I composed quickly got a few shots off and then made sure to give her some Pesos.  The power is the face, and out reached hand.  More images will be coning from this trip as I have time to work on them.

San Miguel – Here We Come

San Miguel Doorway

I am leaving today for a week in beautiful SanMiguel Mexico.  I’ll be blogging from there the rest of the week and also posting on my other blog the PODAS Workshop Blog.  SanMiguel is just a lovely place and so is the surrounding countryside.  Expect to see photos of people, street scenes and landscapes.  I’ll be leading a groups of Phase One camera owners on this trip.  Instructors will be Michael Reichmann and Mark Dubovoy.  Visit the blog and see all the action.

The Washington Coast

Ruby Beach, Washington, Olympic National Park

The coastline of washington state is very beautiful.  Much of it in the northern part of the state is part of the Olympic National Park.  This is a shot done from one of the beaches.  I believe this is Ruby beach.  This past weekend when I was there it was raining and foggy for most  of the time.  I did get one good hour though and this is the shot.  I am going to resurrect a shot done a few years ago and post it tomorrow from third beach.  Stay tuned for that.

Just Creepy

Creepy Old Man Doll, Photographed in odd store in KY

Every now and then I like to post something a bit strange.  On a recent trip returning from Alabama we stopped at an old junk store at an exit in Kentucky with a big dinosaur.  In this junk store were some very stance things.  Creepy things.  This was one of them.  Ugly dolls behind plastic.  If I was a movie script writer I could think of a bunch of horror type movies that could be inspired by these.  This shot is one of the old man doll.  Tomorrow I think I’ll go back to posting pretty landscapes.

Key West Sunset

Every few years I manage to get down to the Keys and especially Key West. Yesterday I visited Key West with two friends and enjoyed a day of wandering the streets, eating ice cream drinking beer and celebrating sunset. Key west is an odd place with its own charm. There is plenty to do and lots of partying after dark. Each day at sunset there is a sunset celebration on the wharf and it is quite an event. There are street performer acts with cats, knifes, fire, and escape artists. Fun to watch. And, while all this is going on folks are drinking and watching for the green flash, which by the way we all saw last night. This is a shot I did during the sunset. Nothing too spectacular but it is sunset in Key West.

Big Old Yellow Truck

Old Truck at Gravel Pit, Noblesville, IN

Last summer on an evening with not much to do my friend and shooting partner set out to find a picture.  I knew of a gravel pit as they are called here and we went to shoot there.  The sky was changing rapidly with an approaching storm and things just fell into place.  We got lots of good images.  I worked this one on the ipad doing  bunch of stuff to it.  Kind of looks like it survived a nuclear attack.  Sometimes you can find old things and just have fun taking pictures of them.

Ice and Glacier

Ice and Glacier, Mt Cook area, New Zealand

This is a cool image done while visiting the Mt Cook area in New Zealand.  We did a cruise in these Zodiac like boat and were able to get right up on mini icebergs which were breaking off the Glacier in the background.  I had fun trying to put both the iceberg and glacier in the same shot to show contract and such.  What do you think?

More Ice

Iceberg New Zealand

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

My first post of the new year and it is of ice, my new obsession, or so it seems.  Why am I fascinated by ice?  Because it is here today and gone tomorrow.  It’s not a cliche like so many images of the grand canyon.  Ice is in constant transition, usually the melting kind.  This little iceberg was shot in New Zealand.  I am sure that as the day went on it moved and melted and may have even turtled (which is roll over terms for icebergs).  I have lots of ice pictures and through out this year you will get to see even more.

Ice and Ice

Ice, Near Mt Cook, New Zealand

Seems I am getting a reputation of being an ice photographer.  I really like ice.  Unlike other landscapes ICE melts.  So what you shoot today may not be there tomorrow.  I shot a load of nice ice images in New Zealand.  This one drew me in and I had the driver of the boat I was in drive around this mini iceberg until I found the right angle.  The day was heavy clouds and many people think you can’t shoot good images on cloudy day.  Quite the contrary.  See how the clouds add a dynamic to the image.  Over all I really like this shot.  Hope you do too.
