I Just Needed To Shoot This

Flower On A Cafe Table in Iceland

I have been up since 2:30 AM in Iceland, because there is always light and we were going to shoot some early morning light photos. Who were we fooling?  We drive all over this Peninsula, it is pouring down rain and the winds are blowing 50 plus MPH.  Quite a day.  Now I am like a junkie I need my fix, I need to shoot something.  We stop at a small hotel with a cafe and the owner brews us some of the finest coffee there is.  Sitting at the table overlooking the ocean with giant waves and things that fly by the window once in a while I get more depressed as it looks like I might not shoot anything all day.  Then I see a flower on my table.  I say oh yeah…and I get my iPhone out.  switch it on to Hipstamatic, switch to a BW setting I like and shoot 6 pictures of this flower.  Ahhhh, I feel better now and I actually had a photo I liked.  So, there is always a way to get a fix, you just sometimes need to see what is front of you.

I’m Back

Hiking Hut and Outhouse, Iceland wilderness

I am now back from a super trip to Iceland and will try to catch up with the blog posts here.  I have so many images to share not too mention fun stories.  Iceland is such a beautiful place.  No matter where you look there is something gorgeous.  This shot was made with fellow photographers Drew, Peter, Steve and we were traveling a rough road out to the snow fields.  Yes it is summer here but plenty cool and snow there.  I love it.  This is a hiking hut and outhouse.  Kind of looked cool in BW and with the outhouse as a g=foreground.

Door Number ONE

Door Number One

I was having with my iPhone on a recent trip to Saugatuck, MI and stumbled upon this abandoned hotel.  Each door was painted a different color.  Someone with some imagination could thell this property had potential.  I did some overall shots and panos but this shot floated to the top.  Simple, the growth out from, door not centered.  It just works.

Big Boat

Great Lakes Steamer, Saugatuck, MI

This is a B&W shot of an old Great Lakes Steamer.  It has been in Saugatuck, MI for what seems forever.  It’s rusting and falling apart.  On June 4th they are moving this boat to a new location in Canada and will be restoring it.  That will be quite a site as it is towed out the river.  Wish I could be there, but I will be in Iceland.

Little Boy In A Window

Boy In Window

It’s fun to walk the streets with a camera.  And this past weekend my camera of choice was the iPhone and using the Hipstamatic App.  While it was fun I did miss my big boy cameras a few times.  But it was an exercise to shoot simple, and see well.  I came away with amazing images.  This one was shot while walking the street of Holland, MI.  I walked past this shop and they had hand painted big letters on the shop window.  Sitting near the window was a couple and a cute baby.  So I motioned if they could put the kids face in the hole of the letter and they did.  I got three good shots.  Like this one the best.

Leaky Boats

Old Lifeboats near Saugatuck, MI

The weekend was a fun shoot.  Saw many things and had a lot of fun shooting the out of the ordinary.  Heading west this weekend so expect to see some big landscapes by this time next week.  In the meantime I am still having fun posting the different.  Todays shot is a continuation of the image from yesterday.  These are two of around ten life boats in a big field just sitting there rusting away.  Some very cool photo possibilities.  Shot with an iPhone and using the hipstamatic app.  I used the Kodat and Jonny S combo.  Lots of fun to shoot small.  Next week it’s back to 80 mega pixels.

Gears

Rusty Gears

While wandering with my iPhone we visited an antique store.  A very cool place and it was photographers dream.  So many cool and unusual items.  Outside I found a basket full of gears and I did some shots.  This one of the ones I like the best.  Shot with iPhone and hipstamtic app and a bit of enhancement in Snapseed.

Wet Tulip

Wet Tulip

So I went away tho weekend and tried for the most part not to shoot with my big boy cameras.  I concentrated on iPhone images mainly shot in the Hipstamatic app.   Sometimes you just need to break the mold and do something different, try to see things in a different way and just have fun.  The next few images are from this weekend and it shows just how much fun you can if you see and look for things.  Today’s image was made of a wet tulip.  I am not big for flower images as everyone can do one, but if you can do it a bit differently then what the heck.  THe hipstamatic, a little work in Snapseed and the rain on the pedals make this image worthy of a blog shot here.

Something Different Again

Bank Vault Hinge

It’s fun once in a while not to just shoot big landscapes.  I like looking around for things that are beautiful and seeing things that look cool when isolated from things around it.  This image I shared on Facebook as a what is it image.  Fun to see people try to guess what it is.  So, it is a hinge on a bank vault.  I found it in an antique store the now occupies and old bank.

Hot Rod Engine

Hor Rod engine

I always marvel at engineering.  Like when you think of your iPhone, hoe did they figure out a way to design it so it looks cool and do all it can and make millions of then.  Or step inside a nuclear submarine and think about all the wire and pipes and how they figured out where it all went and worked together.  Amazing stuff.  Look at this picture of  hot rod engine.  Just beautiful in looks and how it functions too.  To think someone drew the idea out on paper originally .
