Back From Iceland

Icebergs on the beach. They just glowed. We hot the beach at the right time with the right light. What you don't see is the gaggle of Chinese tourists that I had to work around to get this shot.

You may have noticed I have been absent from any recent posts.  This was due to leading a workshop in Iceland for Luminous-Landscape.  We had a great workshop and we saw and did some amazing things.  It was quite the adventure for sure.  We had everything Iceland could throw at us weather wise.  From cold and high winds to beautiful mild winter weather with perfect clouds. So, to get things caught up I will share a number of images I had posted on Facebook during the trip.  My camera for this trip was the Sony A7rII as well as my iPhone.   I had fun using both and you’ll see images made with each.  These images are just a drop in the bucket of some beautiful images I have come home with.  More will be coming.  I am leading another Iceland workshop in June.  And in a few weeks will head off to Patigonia and the Altiplano for two back to back workshops.  So, expect lots of images.

Stockiness, one of my favorites places. I have a number of different and dramatic shots made here over the years.

A Year Ago On February 5th

Kevin and Debra, February 5, 2015
Kevin and Debra, February 5, 2015

It was one year ago I got married on the beach of Neko Harbor in Antarctica.  I was single for a long – long time.  I was busy raising kids and then galavanting round the globe doing photography.  Then I was lucky enough to meet Debra.  She is an amazing woman with he biggest heart I have ever seen or felt.  Plus she gets me.  She loves photography as much as I do and she like playing on computers.  We get a long like two peas in a pod as they would say.  So, one day after dating for like 5 years I told her if she got a passport I would take her to Antarctica and marry her.  Because she was born in Germany to US parents while they were in the service it was hard to find the birth certificate paperwork.  Well guess what, one day the passport showed up and being a man of my word we headed of to Antarctica on one of my photo workshops there and had the most incredible wedding on a beach with 60 photographers and hundreds of penguins.  I can’t even describe how cool that was and how memorable the event was.  Well this week I am taking Debra to Hawaii for a warm weather one year anniversary.  So, when I have internet and some time I’ll be posting from Hawaii and the islands on=f Maui and Molokai.

I Made Her Fly

FB_DSF0183-retLast spring I visited Buffalo, New York and participated in a workshop at Silo City.  This is a complex of old abandoned grain elevators.  I hired a model one day there and did a large number of images.  it was good to get back to taking images of people.  On this image I wanted to make the model levitate off the floor.  It worked pretty well.  It was fun too.

Dragging The Shutter

Every now and then I like to play.  Actually I like to play a lot.  I was at the state fair last August and went to the carriage event in the arena area.  I decided I’d take all images at long exposure.  This meant using the motor drive and just trying to get focus correct and then to move the camera with the subject.  I shot hundreds of images and a good deal of them didn’t turn out.  But, every now and then you get a winner.  Here is one I liked.
