Glacier Calving th

As you can probably tell from all my posts, I’m a polar guy.  I love the Polar regions and feel right at home in these locations.   This image was made by a number of fellow photographers, and I was waiting like a patient fisherman for this gigantic glacier to calve.  After a short time, we heard a boom and saw this calving happening.  I shot a dozen or show images quickly, and this was the best shot.  Some of those pieces of ice are the size of a car.  This was made on one of my trips to Svalbard.

Faroe Islands

This another from my Faros Islands series.  This little slice of Paradise is amazing with waterfalls, a church and a small bay.  I used a texture screen and some other post processing tricks to make it a bit more special.

Locomotive

While visiting Snowqualime, Washington I came across and old steam locomotive.  I did a lot of photos of it but went in close and made some fun images.  This is one of those images that has some beautiful man made geometric abstract shapes.

More Palouse

If you have been following me for any length of time, you most likely know how much I enjoy the  Palouse.  The Palouse is the Tuscany of America.  Gentle rolling hills, abandoned things, and big skies.  These are three images from the Palouse from last year.  The grain silo is the old and abandoned General Mills silo.  The barn with the American flag is an icon of the Palouse as it is one of the first things you see from the road as you enter the Palouse region on the main highway. And then another iconic location is the Wagon Wheel Farm.  This is the location of an artist’s co-op, but also a fence that surrounds the location made up of old iron wagon wheels.

Reflection

As a photographer, seeing things is an acquired talent. The more you look, the better you can see. As part of our Faroe Island workshops, we take the attendees down to the wharf in Tórshavn, the largest city in the Faroe Islands. Here, we ask the photographers to wander around and see differently. Of course, as instructors, we do the same. This is one of my photos of a boat reflection along the waterfront.

My Dog – Maggie

Pets Are Our Best Models

Meet Maggie.  She’s one badass dog and my best friend.  I have a few cats, too, that vie for that same position.  Maggie is smart; she just gets things.  She just wants to be like us.  She loves car rides.  She likes sitting on the couch and watching TV.  She loves her cat friends, and they all have it figured out.  Maggie doesn’t stink.  She has that kind of fur that doesn’t have the wet dog smell.

We adopted Maggie from Debra’s dad after he passed from COVID>. She quickly integrated herself into our household.  We had to work on a few things in the beginning, but she quickly earned our trust, and she is truly part of the family.  She likes to sleep late, and she loves good hugs and cuddles.  She is the ideal dog.  This portrait of her says it all.

Take a photo of your pet.  They are the best.

Antarctica 2023

I was very fortunate to be part of an Antarctica Expedition this past December.  I have been to Antarctica 25 times and I never get tired of it.  It’s obe of my happy places. I even got married there and have taken my wife 2 times.  This year I was part of a Muench Workshops trip.  We had 47 people on the trip aboard the Sea Spirit.  It was a luxury small ship and made traveling to Antarctica a joy.  I will soon publish a story on my main website photoPXL.com but for now just wanted to share some images from this trip.

Patagonia Hard To Describe The Beauty

Patagonia’s location on the west coast of South America, stretching through Argentina and Chile, is a place to behold.  I have had the chance to visit Patagonia a few times while leading photography workshops there.  Today I thought aI would share a few images from there.

Missing The Palouse

It’s turning damp and cold, and we are about to transition from fall to winter.  It’s times like this that I reflect, and today I realized how much I am missing the Palouse.  I have had many posts here on the Palouse, and today, I’ll share a few more.  I head back to the Palouse in June 2024 for two workshops.  I can’t wait.  It’s one of my happy places.  There is so much to shoot that you are always busy taking pictures from dawn to dusk.  Please enjoy some of my Palouse pictures today.

The Everglades Best Resturant

The check out desk at Joanie's Crab House
The check out desk at Joanie’s Crab House

Many times when I am visiting Naples, FL because I have family there I venture out for a road trip.  My ultimate goal is to visit Clyde Buthchers Photography Gallery which is halfway to Miami on the old two-lane highway.  Along the way, there are plenty of interesting photo opportunities.  There are very few places to eat but one particular place stands out. Its got great food but it is kind of rough.  You know where you stand when you visit there.  And, you know you will get a great meal.  The place not to miss is Joanie’s Blue Crab Cafe.

So, if uou are in MIami or NAples, check these places out, load your cameras and have a fun day of exploring.
