Sunrise In Iceland

Sunrise at Jökulsárlón, Iceland
Sunrise at Jökulsárlón, Iceland

One of the things that is fun about Iceland is the unpredictable weather.  When we woke up the morning that this image was taken it was raining hard and deep overcast,  It’s one of those morning that would have been easy to say let’s go back to bed.  The time was around 4AM.   Being the adventurous photographer that we are we decided to go for it and drove the 20 minutes to the Jökulsárlón lagoon.  If you have never heard of this place or visited it you are really missing an experience.  I have visited this location numerous times and it has always yielded a special photograph.  This morning was no different.  The sun had come up behind the clouds and all of a sudden the clouds started to part and this amazing color came through.  Contrasting with the blue of the icebergs I was able to get a number of nice images.  This was one of them.

Merry Christmas

Circle Of Lights, Indianapolis, IN
Circle Of Lights, Indianapolis, IN

It’s a nice time of year.  I will enjoy today with family and friends.  I have my youngest son with us while on leave from the Navy.  My middle son will hopefully join us by the weekend.  My oldest is still deployed to the hot spots in the mid-east and I wish him a safe Christmas day.  I will be cooking up a Beef Wellington for everyone tonight along with a Waldorf salad.  I love to cook and it should be fun.  Christmas day is a rest day.  Maybe a movie or two and just relaxing.  I wish you and your family a safe and happy Christmas.

The Grand Palouse

Rolling hills in the Palouse
Rolling hills in the Palouse

As I have said a hundred times, the Palouse is America’s Tuscany. While it doesn’t have the beautiful cities and villages that Tuscany has it does have some magnificent rolling hills that transform with the seasons.  The harvest is still my favorite time of year.  I do plan to do a June visit in 2016 and capture the Palouse when it is green.  For now this is a pano shot made from the top of a small hill.

New York City Building Abstract

New York City, Building Abstract

I simply love New York.  Who doesn’t? If you are a photographer you can find a vast number of subjects to photograph.  Lately I have been looking for the abstract in images of buildings.  This is an image I made on the way back from a business meeting.  The reflections and the scaffolding all lent to make a different kind of image.

Bringing In The Wheat

Harvest In The Palouse
Harvest In The Palouse

The Palouse is one of my favorite places to photograph.  If you are a regular to my blog you know I have many images made there.  I love the harvest time which usually takes place in early August.  This past year it was very dry and the harvest came very early.  The Palouse suffered a very hot summer and thus it was dry and dusty.  This image show the harvest and the dry dusty wind.

New England Church

New England Church

One of the best breakfast spots I know of is in Sugar Hill, New Hampshire.  Here is where Polly’s Pancake Parlor is located.  I had three breakfasts there on my journey in New England.  After each breakfast I would go out for a few hours of shooting on the back roads.  This church is right down the road from Polly’s.  The clouds that morning were dramatic.  The shot was hard because I was shooting into the light.  I was able to recover the image using creative processing using Capture One. This is the iconic New England church.
