As you know from the previous posts from the last few days that I am very much into ice and cold weather images. Today image was made on one of my trips to Antarctica where we were close to some very large icebergs. This is a shot as a wave washes up on an iceberg that had just Turtled which is rolling over. I love the texture and simplicity.
This is another image from the same Zodiac cruise as yesterday’s image. There were so many icebergs and such interesting light that this two hour cruise produced some amazing once in a lifetime images.
As my collection of Antarctica Images continue, I share today an image I have always liked. This is a leopard seal on a bergy bit floating contently in a small bay in Antarctica. I always though this image defined Antarctica. It’s got ice, landscape and wildlife. This place is truly heaven for photographers.
I am so excited. I am going back to Antarctica not one but twice in the next few months. My first journey is November 6th and will be my last trip across the Drake Passage on a boat. The Drake can be very nasty. I’m talking 40 foot waves, rocking and pitching boat for 2 days. I am not bothered by this (luckily( but others don’t find it so pleasant. Once you get there though it gets very good as far as photography goes. After these two trips I’ll have a ton of images to use n a couple of books I am planning for Antarctica. This image was made in the iceberg graveyard. This is a rather large bay where icebergs drift in and become grounded. Over time water and melting them creates these amazing looking icebergs. This shot shows a Leopard Seal who just finished a meal. He didn’t give us even a head raise as we cruised by in our Zodiac.
Zion National PArk is a small park in comparison to some others but a lot of beautiful sights are tucked away inside this unusual location. I thought since fall colors are almost upon us that i would post a fall colors in Zion image. This was made about 2 years ago in the first week on November. The park just turns a beautiful color and no matter where you aim your camera you get a good shot.
My first trip to the Northern Polar region was a lot better than I expected. In addition to some great wildlife images I was able to capture, I managed to shoot some really nice landscapes. This is shot was made from our ship of a very large glacier in Svalbard.
I love Scotland. It’s an amazing place to shoot landscapes. I’ll be leading a workshop there next fall. we’ll shoot in Isle of Skye. This is an image made in Glencoe region. I love the colors and light. This was shot on one of those amazing days.
The recent trip I took to Svalbard was a great place to shoot many types of images. We did a landing one day on shore at an old marble mine. It was a great place to shoot old building as well as lots of rust. This image was made of an old crane used to load boats. I liked the rust as well as the color of the background. This was made with a Nikon D800E and a 24-70mm lens.
While in Svalbard, Norway we visited an old mining outpost. I was in heaven as there was rust galore. If you are a follower of my blog you’ll know how much I love rust. So, here is the first of a number of rusty images from Svalbard. Made with a Phase One IQ180.
While in Salvbard, Norway we landed our zodiacs in an area that used to be an old marble mine. I always love these abandoned areas as I travel around the world. I’ll find rust, decay and all sorts of cools things to shoot that are not necessarily and landscape but in reality are. There were several huts here and this image is the side of one hut with a table. I liked the two mention feel and balance of the table with the window. Shot with a Phase One IQ180.
