Castle Stalker

Castle Stalker, Scotland

Last evening we took the group to Castle Stalker and stayed there until after sunset. And, oh what a sunset it was. It lasted a while and transformed itself every few minutes Hard to decide what shots to choose. Shoot with the Phase One IQ 180 and then processed in capture one. Was bale to still hold detail in the castle while keeping the intensity of the sunset. Good tools for great images. More to come.

It Keeps Getting Better

So here is another Scotland image. I am done scouting locations and we are all set up and ready to go. Tomorrow the attendees for the PODAS workshop arrive and we will start our week of shooting. It will be a non-stop week of shooting. I’ll try to keep posting but it will get busy.  This was made at Glencoe Lochan.

Scotland Castles

Eilean Donan Castle, Scotland

Scotland is turning out to be a photographic gold mine.  So many beautiful places to take pictures of. The schedule for locations to visit over the next 7 days is amazing. I hope to be posting a new image each day from this trip. This a shot of the Eilean Donan Castle. It is a classic castle with bridge, old stone and sitting on an island. I shot this castle from many viewpoints. You may see more. But, this image I like because of the rock with a bird in the foreground and the colors. Stay tuned for more.

Scotland

Last Image Of The Day, Isle Of Skye, Scotland

I spent the day with Steve Gosling shooting the Isle of Skye today in Scotland. Oh, what a day. We experienced every kind of weather possible. Wind, cold, rain sun and incredible clouds. We drove countless miles on insane roads. I took 2200 exposures. I can post the rest of the year on images from this trip alone. Tomorrow the rest of the Phase One team begins to arrive and we will be in full force with the PODAS Workshop by Sunday. We have so many things planned I am sure we will all have a good time. It is what PODAS is all about. So stay tuned and be sure to check in at The PODAS Blog.

Scotland So Much To See

Scotland

I am writing to you from a small hotel somewhere in Skye, Scotland. I will be leading a workshop here in a few days and came early to scout out locations and get an idea of what Scotland is all about. And, does Scotland have a lot to offer. This was one shot of many keepers today. I shot with the Phase One IQ180, the iPhone and the Olympus OMD 5. This image was made with the art mode on the Olympus and it was the easy to do. So far I made some new friends on this trip, taken some good shots and feel good when I am out in my element taking pictures.  Stay tuned for more as I will post when time allows.

Hurricane Ridge

Hurricane Ridge, Olympic National Park

This is a shot made in Olympic National Park. One of my favorite National Parks, mainly because there is so much diverse landscape to shoot. I made this on Hurricane Ridge and off of a fire road I ventured to travel on. The sky was so blue that day and the color looked so incredible. Once I switched it over to BW though the image just jumped. Shot with a Phase One P65+.

Castle Rock

Castle Rock, Canadian Rockies

I spent a few days in the Canadian Rockies a week or so ago and was scouting for locations and hotels for next years PODAS workshop there. There was a lot to shoot. Day one we had blue skies and puffy clouds and a few days after that full force snow storms that left the mountains topped off with snow cover. I’ll pots some more over the coming days.

Need My Rust Fix

Rusty Tank treads and gears, Antarctica

Every now and then I need a rust fix and this is as good as it gets. I have been re-woring many of my images in my spare time and I just love the way this one looks. It was shot with a Phase One camera so detail and dynamic range are exceptional. It is a shot of a tank like vehicle used in Antarctica to get around in the snow. For some reason Antarctica environment makes the best rust. I just love the geometry and color of this shot.

Morant’s Curve The Other Direction

Well, I just had to go back and shoot a train on Morant’s curve coming from the other direction. Had to wait like an hour for the train to come and then it was moving very fast. But, I managed to get focus set prior to the arrival and then at a certain point I just blasted away. Here is the one I like best. Taken with an Olympus OMD 5. I feel the sky, curve and colors all work well in this shot. Hope you enjoy it.

Black and White Just Works

In The Ice Fields Canadian Rockies

Sometimes you are shooting a scene or environment that is just made for Black and white. The picture today was just that. Shot on October 2, 2012 in the ice Fields of the Canadian Rockies. The weather was changing every second. Winds, cold, snow. It was so cold my iPhone shut down. Camera kept working though. I shot this image and processed it in Capture One. Capture One has such great features for holding shadow detail and highlight detail.  I printed it on the darker side because it matches the true darkness of the time it was shot. Hope you like it.
