I have published a number of images from Silo City. This is a location of grain silos in Buffalo. I have published a number of images from Silo City in the past on this blog. I had the opportunity to shoot a model for one day of my three that I spent shooting there. She happened to be a dancer and was able to strike great poses. I was trying to show the human life form in contrast to the machinery of this place. I really like this image.
I see some cool things and places in my travel. This image reminds me of a secret base in a James Bond movie. It is a water intake facility stuck out on Lake Erie. We took a Buffalo fireboat to get here. It is really a cool place and old. It is the intake for the city’s water supply. I shot this with a wide angle lens. I had lots of fun exploring this structure.
Last spring I visited Buffalo, New York and participated in a workshop at Silo City. This is a complex of old abandoned grain elevators. I hired a model one day there and did a large number of images. it was good to get back to taking images of people. On this image I wanted to make the model levitate off the floor. It worked pretty well. It was fun too.
I have photographed on two occasion at the Silo City complex in Buffalo , NY. It’s a large are with abandoned grain silos. Giant structures with all sort of interesting things to photograph. On my last trip another photographer and myself hired a couple of models and attempted to put the human figure into the landscape of these old building. It was a lot of fun and I took a ton of good images but only felt these dreamy ones worked out. Here is an image I call Ghosts Of Silo City.
While shooting at Silo City in Buffalo Michael and I were standing on top of one of the silos and I saw this shot. The silos were a major distribution point for grain to be transported by rail to the east coast. This is a shot of the rail yard all grown over.
While shooting at Silo City, Buffalo NY, we had the opportunity to shoot some models in the environment there. This is one I did with heavy backlighting. I actually had fun doing this and may start shooting more people as a result. It’s been a while since I have photographed people.
The building at Silo City are huge. They can be 12-14 stories some of them. This is a shot of the tops of as few of them from roof level of another building.
It’s been a week since I visited Silo City in Buffalo, NY. The location provided so many photo opportunities that I have enough good images to share for a few weeks. This is a shot made at Concrete City a location not to far from Silo City. This place is huge and we were there at a great time with great light and great shadows.
The one thing I learned over the weekend that industry has its own beauty. While the Water Works and the Silos were functional and productive facilities, the design lent itself to interesting and wonderful photographic beauty. This is another image from Silo City. I love the symmetry and the balance as well as the way the light is reflected. Hope you enjoy.
While shooting this massive silo complex in Buffalo this past weekend I had the opportunity to shoot some models provide by another photographer that was there.
