Doorways and Tree

Doorway, Doorway, Tree, near San Miguel, Mexico

While shooting at an old abandoned silver mine, I came across this doorway that lead to another doorway that framed a tree in an old room perfectly.  I love the colors and the whole two dimension, three dimension thing going on.  The image is sharp as a tai being taken with an IQ180 camera.  On a print you can see all the detail on the tree.

Abandoned Hotel

Abandoned Hotel, San Miguel, Mexico

I love old, neglected, abandoned, rusty things.  This is a lobby of a hotel in San Miguel that was almost 50% completed when it was abandoned because someone figured out it sat below a damn that if it failed would wipe out the hotel.  So, on our trip their recently we had the chance to spend several hours there shooting.  This is one of a number of good shots I got.  Look for more soon.

Mexican Doorway

Lady and doorway, San Miguel, Mexico

Some of the coolest shots I have done are subjects in doorways.  I did a shot years ago in Argentina of a boy eating a bag of chips in a doorway that is one of my mot popular prints.  This image was made in San Miguel.  Everything came together perfectly to balance the composition out.  Street photography in San Miguel where this was done is just great.

San Miguel Alley

Alley, San Miguel, Mexico

A month ago I lead a Phase One PODAS workshop to San Miguel Mexico.  We had a blast and photographed a lot differently than we do at usual PODAS workshops.  We did a lot of medium format street photography.  This is an image I found in an alley that was also an above ground burial vault area.  It was so very pretty and I could resist shooting and sharing this shot.

Inside Mexican Church

Courtyard in Mexican church

On my recent trip to San Miguel, Mexico, we were given the chance to see behind the sciences at a large church not to far from San Miguel.  There was a pilgrimage going on at the time and this is a shot inside one of the courtyard inside this church.  I like the arches, and the way the people are positioned.  What are they doing?  What is this place.

Pilgrimage – Mexico

Hall in a church during a pilgrimage

While on my recent trip in Mexico we got a rare opportunity to visit a church in a small village.  Daniel Ortiz our local attendee with us knew the priest at this church and obtained permission for us to photograph in the back of the church where most people never go.  The church was holding a pilgrimage and there were a thousand men there for the week praying and being part of the event.  I have a lot of images that are really nice and will be sharing them here over time.  This image though I liked.  The detail in it blown up large is so sharp.  I used an IQ 180 camera to shoot it so it better bee with 80 mega pixels.  This was a hall that I stumbled upon by accident and it just blew me a way.  All these men bring a bed roll and a small chair and sleep in hals like this. Here they are shown relaxing after a lunch.  The time exposure of 10 seconds make it interesting as some people are moving and appear very ghost like and others are still.  The hallway while it looks nice and bright here was very dim and dull.

Door, Door, Window

Door, Door Window, San Miguel, Mexico

On my trip a few weeks ago to Mexico we did things different and shot a lot of ruins.  Mexico just doesn’t have that big broad landscape.  So I concentrated on looking for angles and layers in a scene.  This shoot of two doorways and window works well for that.  Photographed at a very old silver mine.  Building were amazing as well as the light.   I like things straight and balanced and worked hard to align everything in this shot to work properly.  This was shot with a Phase One IQ180

Woman In San Miguel

Woman Begging in San Miguel, Mexico

This has been an incredible week with the PODAS workshop.  I head home today only to leave on Wednesday for Scotland.  I tend to move around a lot.  One of the things that is fun to do is shoot what we photographers term street photography and San Miguel is perfect for this.  So much going on.  This shot was made near the ATM machine of a woman who is obviously begging.  You see this a lot in Mexico.  Sad.  I composed quickly got a few shots off and then made sure to give her some Pesos.  The power is the face, and out reached hand.  More images will be coning from this trip as I have time to work on them.
