I am a rust addict. Ok, I have come clean. There is some attraction to rust that makes e seek it our. Rust has its own story. It is the decay of something that was. I find rust everywhere and love the texture and colors. It’s almost like an abstract. The best rust is in Antarctica and this trip I did a lot of rust shots on Deception Island. You’ll see more posted here. You can always use the tag on the right and click on rust to see all the rusty pictures.

Sunrise In The Lemaire Channel
One of the essential places to visit in Antarctica is the Lemaire channel. This is passage that takes about an hour through a narrows and it is just spectacular especially at dawn or sunset. This was a beautiful start to what turned into a 20 hour day of photography on my recent trip to Antarctica.
Whale Oil Tanks
Rust is a favorite subject of mine and I am always surprised at how much rust I find in Antarctica. These are whale oil tanks on Deception Island. This place is an abandoned and kind of surreal place. It’s an old whale processing plant from a hundred years ago. They slaughtered thousand of whales here without any regard. When you walk the beach there and then see images of the beach back then littered with whale bones it kind of creeps you out. Thus I shot this image to illicit some mood and tone for what used to take place there.
The Amazing Group For Our 2014 Antarctica Workshop
We have just competed the Luminous-Landscape 2014 Fly Over The Drake – Antarctica Photo Workshop. It was an amazing time and trip. This is the group shot for the trip. Looks like a happy group.
Beautiful Light
Having just returned home from Antarctica I am now busy editing and working on over 7000 images made during the trip. This was one I liked a lot so far. Seal On Ice. As we were zodiac cruising the Planeau Bay where there are a ton if icebergs we came across this seal and just happened to have amazing light.
In My Element
While on my recent trip to Antarctica I was given a chance to do something I have wanted to do for years and that was to drive a Zodiac in Antarctica. This was a dream come true and a very wise move by our expedition leader who knew it would keep me quiet the rest of the trip. This was very cool. Happiness doesn’t do the feeling justice.
Back From Antarctica Again
I am now back in Chile after experiencing a totally awesome adventure with some totally great folks on The Luminous-Landscape Fly Over The Drake Antarctica Photography Workshop. The weather was absolutely great for the whole trip and the amount of images I have returned with are staggering. We experienced whales, seals, penguins and the most beautiful landscapes imaginable. Over the coming days I’ll be posting more images here and on f=Facebook pif this great trip.
Stairway
This is a stairway shooting down from the top floor at the Iceland Hilton Hotel. There is something that just works with the perspective and shadows. Takes a minute to figure out. SSHot with Olympus OMD and 14-54 zoom.
Watering The Horses
This is another image from the same lake as the two proceeding images. This cowboy walked his horses down to the lake for a drink. While he was there I lined up the shot with the trees in the background and then if one cue these birds flew into the frame. What a great lucky oportunity. Shot with the Nikon D800e and 70-200mm zoom.
Magic Of San Miguel
I am in beautiful San Miguel doing some Luminous-landscape business and shooting whenever possible this beautiful city and region. I’ll be out with my business partner Michael Reichmann for the next few days exploring some great Mexican Landscapes. Look for upcoming images. Todays image was made in San Miguel yesterday while walking to lunch. I just loves the light, the subject and what they were doing. No matter who you meet here they all seem happy. Very festive place. More images will be coming.
