Seems I am getting a reputation of being an ice photographer. I really like ice. Unlike other landscapes ICE melts. So what you shoot today may not be there tomorrow. I shot a load of nice ice images in New Zealand. This one drew me in and I had the driver of the boat I was in drive around this mini iceberg until I found the right angle. The day was heavy clouds and many people think you can’t shoot good images on cloudy day. Quite the contrary. See how the clouds add a dynamic to the image. Over all I really like this shot. Hope you do too.

Ice In New Zealand
The workshop I am leading in New Zealand is going extremely well. We have shot some amazing images. Above is a shot taken today. I have lots more coming. Just missing the time to make post. You can see all the action at www.podas.info
Glaciers and a New Setting Sun
My inventory of beautiful landscapes is large and last night I was sorting some images from Iceland and came on this. I cleaned it up a little bit and wanted to share it here today. Iceland is one of the most majestic places on the planet. I will leading a workshop there end of MAy 2012 so stay tuned for information on that. This shot was made at Jokulsarlon bay which is a lagoon that is filled with icebergs from a very large glacier nearby. These icebergs float around the lagoon eroding and taking on the most mazing forms. Then they are washed out to sea and some of them land on the beach nearby at low tide. The whole area is just amazing.
Big Blue
Got cold here today (chilly) but none the less I thought ice. So, it’s iceberg picture time. Another image from thousands that I have of ice and cold in Antarctica. This was a beautiful blue iceberg that slipped into a bay where our ship was anchored. we did a Zodiac cruise around it and I shot a number of angles. I like this low angle and the deep blue. Shot with a Phase One P65+ and a 28mm lens hand held.
Antarctica Sunset
It seems that when you visit Antarctica you can point your camera in almost any direction and take a great photo. It is an overwhelming landscape. This shot was taken during one of the three hour sunsets and encompasses much of what i know Antarctica to be. Water, ice, icebergs and exceptional light.
Big Iceberg
It has been a hot week in China and thought that today I would cool things off a bit. One thing that I marvel at is icebergs. There are all sorts of different bergs out there. This one is a tabular berg and could measure three quarters of a mile wide and deep. There are some that are much bigger. This one was caught with the bird that adds foreground and makes the shot work.
Hole In The Ice
This shot is just cool. Cruising an area in Antarctica we cam across a bay with lots of ice. So, we hopped in the Zodiacs and took a cruise. This is one shot from that cruise. Not a spectacular one but a cool one.
Magical Antarctica
I have had so many great experiences on my three trips to Antarctica. Each trip has been life changing. It’s not hard to point a camera in any direction and get a great shot. It becomes overwhelming at some points. But I’ll take overwhelming and I’ll take 24 hour days. Because in the end you end up with images like this. Today’s image was shot with a Canon 1DS Mark II with a long lens at one of those 3 hour sunset – sunrises that happens in Antarctica. I have been working on a ton of images from Antarctica and a dozen other places. With all my travels I have a large backlog but you can count on and endless number of images to be viewed on this blog.
Enjoy!
Berg
Ahhh…Antarctica…..I have a love for this place. It’s a life changing environment with natural beauty and a light unlike any other place on earth. It’s a dynamic environment, especially for photographers. It can’t be clichéd. An image taken one day won’t be there the next. This iceberg was huge. I have hundreds of iceberg images. This one stands out. You can’t imagine the size of some of these. They are as big as cities they float aimlessly around the oceans and eventually melt away or break into smaller pieces. So, you take one of these beasts and then throw light on it and you get images like this.
Purple Ice
This has been a weird few days of weather here in Indianapolis. We had 70 degree weather and 24 hours later we had snow and ice. While not significant it got me thinking cold again. So, today I present purple ice. This is an iceberg shot in Antarctica. The sun didn’t really set when I was there, it just kind of change to this magnificent purple – orange glow and lasted for a few hours. A totally incredible things to witness. Hope you enjoy this shot. You can see more of my Antarctica images by CLICKING HERE.
