While in Salvbard, Norway we landed our zodiacs in an area that used to be an old marble mine. I always love these abandoned areas as I travel around the world. I’ll find rust, decay and all sorts of cools things to shoot that are not necessarily and landscape but in reality are. There were several huts here and this image is the side of one hut with a table. I liked the two mention feel and balance of the table with the window. Shot with a Phase One IQ180.

Dolomites #8
Dolomites #7
So, yesterday I published a scene taken at sunset. Here is the same scene with a slightly different angle after the sun went down and the moon came up. This will be the last of this location. Tomorrow we move on to other dolomite locations.
Dolomites #6
The light and clouds keep blessing u this week. Last night we had another excellent evening with the moon to make for some marvelous images. The PODAS workshop week continues and we are having a blast shooting a lot of different locations. I am too tired to even download images tonight but will try to catch up tomorrow. Hope you enjoy this image.
Dolomites #5
Some things here in the dolomites are too hard to describe. It’s all rather post cardish and just plain pretty. Like this image. Here is a church with these great mountains as a background and beautiful skies to go with it. These images are all being made as part of the Phase One PODAS workshop presently going on. We will be shooting through Saturday so expect more images.
Where Do I Go From Here?
This Polar Bear is at the edge of the Arctic Ice pack. Where does he go next? I think ti is kind of a symbolic image of the challenges the Polar Bear faces today. I love the bird in the shot.
The Classic Post Card Shot
This was shot in Scotland on a lake that some rich Scottish guy made just so it would remind his wife of a lake back in America where she was from. It’s one of those dream lakes. Perfect in so many ways. This shot was as if it was set up. Row boat, fall colors, subtle clouds. How could I go wrong? I was very conscious though of the ones and composition as I made this image. It works on many levels as a classic.
Palouse Harvest Time
This is a fantastic time to visit the Palouse in Washington. It’s harvest time and this makes the landscape very dynamic as the farmers harvest endless fields of wheat. You can spend all day exploring and shooting in the Palouse. This image was made after chartering a plane and flying for an hour and shooting the fields from a different perspective. I’ll be running a Lula/PODAS workshop in the Palouse next August. Stay tuned for details.
Chicago Iron
Chicago is such a fun place to shoot street photography. You can get some real interesting images of some very unusual people and you can shoot shots like this that mix the city, steel and people into one image. I liked the framing and was trying to balance the perspective and composition out when a person walked into the image. Click and I got it. Make with a Phase One IQ180. Yes, you can shoot street stuff with medium format.
Scotty’s Staircase
On one of my visits to Death Valley I visited Scotty’s Castle. This is a pretty cool castle located in the middle of the desert. Really hard to believe some guy a hundred years ago built a place like this. This image was made lying on my back and shooting straight up the circular staircase. Then I messed with it in pst processing.
