HDR’ed and I Don’t Care

Big Old Train Noblesville, IN
Big Old Train Noblesville, IN

Lately I have been shying away from the HDR look. This is a grungy look that many photographers use to add artistic effects to their shots. It really is used to recover shadow and highlight details in images by combining multiple exposures of different ranges in exposure together. Sometimes in can be done in such a way that the image looks very natural. Other times it kind of goes over the edge. This is one of those other times. It works though with big old locomotive and the sky and the colors.  Shot with a Nikon D800e on a tripod. 24-70mm lens. Processed in Capture One then the output was HDR’ed in Photomatic.

In Canada This Week

Wet Grass In A Field, Cremore, Canada
Wet Grass In A Field, Cremore, Canada

I am in Canada this week working on my new business luminous-landscape.com. Doing a lot of planning and meetings to make sure we have all aspects under control moving forward. Lots of ideas to make a great site even better. Very exciting times. Michael Reichmann and I will work and in the afternoon go out shooting. You know how it is as a photographer. You got get out there and shoot. This picture was made in a field yesterday. It was right after a rain storm and I loved the way the drops of water clinged to the grass. I also thought B&W worked best for this image. Shot with a Nikon D800e and 24-70mm lens. Processed in Capture One and converted to BW while still a RAW.

I love what I call Sunday Photo Day. This past Sunday June 30th Debra and I headed to the Indiana Transportation Museum. I have been shooting there for year and there are all these old trains and some of them have the most beautiful rust and decay.  Did I mention I like rust and decay? So here is the first of many I took that day. I hope in the coming weekends I can go out and shoot more there. I haven’t even begun to capture all of what is there. I’ll post more here over the coming weeks.

Happy Car

Happy Car, Carmel, Car Show, Indiana

This is just a fun shot. Made at the auto show that is right up the street from my house. I love shooting all the cars and trying to find unique angles and clever shots. Sometimes I shoot the engine, or the light paying on the curves of the car body. But, this one just looked fun.

Barrel Room

Barrel Room, Abandoned Farm House, Tuscany, Italy

While shooting a sunrise in Tuscany we stumbled onto an abandoned farm house.  It was wonderful exploring it and I did come out with some nice images.  This is an image of a room where I believe barrels were made.  It was just about complete darkness.  I used a Phase One IQ260 that is great for long exposures.  the exposure was a long one and yielded a surreal image.  I hope you like it.
