Happy New Year

Under the rainbow in Iceland
Under the rainbow in Iceland
Happy New Year. It is time to forget 2020 and move forward with optimism, hope and especially love. Like many of you 2020 is a year I hope I never have to repeat it’s a year like we never could have imagined. All I know now is that I want to move forward, travel again and look through the viewfinder and take more pictures than I ever have before.
I wish all of you a great year moving forward and that we can all find a way to come together again, put differences aside, and realize that we are best when were united I am looking and seeing the love that is around us.
Stay safe and Happy New Year.
Thanks for visiting this site.

Merry Christmas

Indianapolis, Circle of lights

Merry Christmas from Debra and me.  This has been a strange and difficult year.  It’s one for the record books.  This is a Christmas for us with no family or friends.  Just the two of us, which frankly isn’t too bad.  I haven’t traveled since February, and for me, that is quite unusual.  I have a lot of ground and time to make up for so let’s hope 2021 is a better year than 2020 and I can back on the road and share new photos from my travel.  Please stay safe, and we will all be out of this in the next few months.

South Georgia Island

I’m going back and you can come with me.  In November along with Steve Gosling, I am heading back to South Georgia Island and Antarctica.  This is a trip of a lifetime to see a place you wouldn’t believe exists.  The amount of wildlife will astound you.  If you are interested please visit rockhopperworkshops.com and take a look at the South Georgia – Antarctica workshop as well as the others we presently are offering.

2nd Beach

One of the most photographed beaches in Washington state is the 2nd beach.  This beach is close to Forks, WA and Olympic National Park. There is a small hike on a fairly well-groomed trail to the beach.  Once there you are greet with an incredible scene.  It’s even a better sunset.  be sure to stay until it is dark.  Bring a flashlight so you can find your way back through the forest.  Visit this location several time because each time is different and really incredibly beautiful sunsets.

A list Ove A Year Way Another South Georgia Island Visit

In just a little over a year, I will hopefully (pandemic depending) be heading to Ushuaia, Argentina to board the Ocean Nova for yet another voyage to the most incredible location on the planet.  Our trip is being hosted by one of my companies Rockhopper Workshops.  It’s a 20-day trip visiting the Falklands, South Georgia, and Antarctica.  It is the ultimate bucket list trip.

The image above was a shot as we approached S. Georgia Island.  This place never disappoints with great light and clouds and is teaming with wildlife.

A Bit More Palouse

Grain Silo in the Palouse
Grain Silo in the Palouse

I continuallly go through my images and find new ones to work on.  These two images are from the Plaouse region.  I picked these two images and did some special post processing on them.  I wasn’t heavy handed but wanted to add texture and a contrastly BW look to the silo photo.  On the truck door photo I played with some color grading to give it a look that I thought made it look like it was sort of old.  Always be playing.  Go through your images and find the hidden treasures you bypassed before and work on making them something special.

I Miss Greenland

Devlin Castle in Greenland

If it wasn’t for the pandemic I would have just been returning from Greenland.  I do photo workshops and tours there every year except this one.  I miss Greenland and need to get back there.  I do have 2 back to back workshops scheduled there for next year.  You can find information for this workshop HERE.  By next year we are pretty confident that we will have a vaccine and be good to go.  These workshops are booking up so if interested please think about booking soon.

Getting The Shot

Palouse Falls

I miss traveling so much. For someone like myself who has been traveling at least a month for years and years, being stuck at home is devastating.   So, the images I am sharing now are from past trips.  This image is from one of my favorite places, the Palouse.  Specifically Palouse FAlls at the State Park.  This is showing the spot I use most to cover both the falls and canyon.  If you are lucky when photographing here you can catch cloudy and stormy skies or the sunset.  I usually use a 16mm lens here.  Put on a neutral density filter and I can then do 20- 50-second exposures and get that cool looking smooth waterfall look.  The picture below is a group shot from one of my workshops in the Palouse.  The 2021 workshops in the Palouse are sold out.
