I love shooting old trains and the colors and especially rust that comes with then. Lucky for me there is a train museum a short drive from where I live and I shoot there often. This is a shot of the interior of an old mail car. I understand in the old days the train would travel the tracks and grab mail bags off of hooks on the side of the railroad. These bags had mail in them and were sorted in a car like this and put in new bags to be dropped in towns where they were going along the route. Kind of cool.

We are offering two back to back workshops in January 2015. This is an incredible trip. I will have been there 6 times by the time the workshop takes place. I am doing Antarctica this November and in January 2014. It is my favorite place on the planet. It is a must see and must do on your bucket list. Especially if you enjoy taking pictures. Visit Luminous-Landcape and check it our and register. Our previous workshops sell out very quickly. The image above I made on my last trip. It is the ship we will be sailing on. Oh, did I mention we will be flying over the Drake.
Tuscany Well
When we think of Tuscany we think of the big landscape and rolling hills. Tuscany also has a ton of small villages, mostly sitting on top of hills. They are just as photographic. This is the public well from on of those villages.
Train Yard
I love what I call Sunday Photo Day. This past Sunday June 30th Debra and I headed to the Indiana Transportation Museum. I have been shooting there for year and there are all these old trains and some of them have the most beautiful rust and decay. Did I mention I like rust and decay? So here is the first of many I took that day. I hope in the coming weekends I can go out and shoot more there. I haven’t even begun to capture all of what is there. I’ll post more here over the coming weeks.
Around Carmel Again
My series on Around Carmel continues. This si such a nice community. This image was made by the War Memorial looking toward the Performing Arts Center. Shot with a Nikon D800e and 16mm lens.
Montgomery Reef
As you have seen from previous posts, i made a recent trip to the Kimberley region of Austrailia. Amazing doesn’t come close to describing what a great trip it was. we had a helicopter at our disposal (i wasn’t free) and it allowed us to go places and see things that weren’t possible without it. This is an image made from the helicopter of the Montgomery Reef and amazing place in the middle of the ocean off the coast of NW Austrailia.
Day In Rome
In April 2013 I spent some time in Italy and the Tuscany region. An amazing area with lots of images. This is an image from a day in Rome. After the workshop a few of my friends and I spent a day shooting all over Rome. It was one of those picture perfect, weather perfect days. This a shot done at the Colosseum. What an amazing structure and to think it was constructed so long ago. If the walls could tell stories it would be fascinating.
Tree In New Zealand
New Zealand is full of surprises and most of them make great photography opportunities. This was just on of those cases. We were exploring a valley and came across this old stone wall with a tree at the end. This image was made with a 28mm lens on a Phase One IQ180.
Beautiful Scotland Day
People say it is never nice in Scotland, but I would have to disagree.I think they say that to scare off tourists. When I was there a year ago it was glorious. This is an image made at sunrise there. Beautiful light, no wind, perfect.
Tabular Iceberg
I am getting so excited as I will be visiting Antarctica again for the 5th and 6th times this winter. First trip will be in November and another at the end of January. This is one of time most amazing places in the world that anyone and especially a photographer can visit. I have also just booked 2 more workshops for January 2015 on the Luminous Landscape website. I’ll but links in another posting in the next few days. This will be an incredible trip. I do hope to publish a book on Antarctica after these next journeys. Also, you can visit my Antarctica Gallery page from the home page of this site under the Gallery Selection. This is an image of a giant tabular iceberg that we passed on one of our cruises in Antarctica.
