Today is a cold damp, rainy, dreary Indiana day. So today I thought of spring and present tulips keeping in mind it won’t be long until we see these popping through the earth. This was shot in Holland, Michigan where they celebrate with a Tulip Feestival every spring. Hope I can make it there this year.
One thing I haven’t posted much of here on this blog is people and animals. I am going to have to change that and today I present a mad animal. This si a seal shot during a cold blowing snow morning in Antarctica. These were big animals and the sounds they made were unearthly. Anyway this guy wasn’t too happy that we were interrupting his nap.
This image is from Iceland and a beach close to a glacial lagoon. What happens is this large glacier produces icebergs and these icebergs float around in this giant glacial lagoon. eventually they find their way to the ocean. There they float and eventually get thrown up on shore and left there at low tide. It is amazing to walk onto this black sand beach and see these bergs. Hundreds of them on a typical low tide as far as you can see. Each one beautiful. You could spend hours there shooting.
Antelope Canyon is like a rite of passage for a photographer. So many have been there and they go just to say they did it. I am no exception, yet I think I go so I can get some magical different images. Antelope Canyon is not to far from Page Arizona. There is a lot of other cool stuff to shoot in the area but the slot canyons are the place that are truly special. This image was shot on a Phase One P45+ with a 2 minute exposure. The Phase One backs work great because they do long exposures so well. It is dark in the slot canyons and the backs also have a great dynamic range allowing you to capture highlight areas and shadow details. I may post another Antelope picture tomorrow.
It was a cold day when we set out to reach the top of a small mountain in Necko Harbor, Antarctica. It was one of those days with kind of white out conditions. There was no defining horizon just human beings in bright yellow parkas white The view was spectacular and worth the long climb. The way back down was really fun as we all just sat down on the snow and slid all the way to the bottom and it was a long way. Just another great memory from a great trip.
