This is an image made deeper into the Icelandic countryside after a climb up a hill. This is a geothermal field where steam just bubbles out of the ground. You can find these all over Iceland. This image doesn’t give a hint on how bad it smells. A very heavy sulfa smell. Es it looks nice against a sunset. Made with a Phase One P65+.
I have always loved this image. A few years ago I was in Iceland and scouting out locations with Daniel Bergman. We traveled to all sorts of cool places and covered a lot of ground. However as usual a number r of my best images came from Jokulsarlon. This is a giant lagoon where glaciers all meet these in turn have ice that brakEs off otherwise known as calving. The light that night was so good. The day really never ended. We had like a three hour sunset that merged into a sunrise. There is a point where these icebergs flow out of the lagoon and to the ocean. The ocean then deposits them on the beach which is another great spot for excellent images. The lagoon got clogged at the point where these icebergs flow out and they created a dam of sorts. Water backed up and then ran over these form their own sets of rapids. I got right up to the spot with a wide angle lens on my Phase One and managed to get these shots. This is one of my favorite.
I can’t get enough of Iceland and especially a spot known as the iceberg lagoon Jokulsarlon. This is one of the most visited areas in Iceland not to mention photographed, so finding unique images is hard. I have found a few though and this is one. I places the ice at the top of the images and let the water and a chunk of black ice carry your eye to the horizon.
I have been to Iceland many times and it is one the best places in the world for a landscape photographer to visit. Just about everywhere you look there is incredible scenes begging to be photographed. I was with my friend and Iceland guide Daniel Bergman when we were leaving one such place. This is the result of stopping and taking that one last shot.
Sometimes the light gods watch over you. This image was made on a trip back from Beatty, NV. This is a small town of about a 1000 people living in the absolute middle of no where. More on Beatty in another post sometime. As I was returning to Death Valley I looked west and saw these clouds. I pushed it and crested the top of the mountain and looked down in the valley back to Furnace Creek and this is what I was greeted with. It was made with a 28mm lens on an IQ180 Phase One camera. Sometimes you just luck out.
Moab is a town you stay in and all around Moab are one of the country’s largest areas to shoot pictures. Amazing images abound around every turn. This is a photographer’s paradise as when the light decides to play you can get some great shots. This one was made in Arches National Park right outside of Moab.
I have visited Austrailia a number of time and just love the country. So many beautiful things and some of the nicest people on the planet. This shot was made while waiting for a sunset at Ayers Rock. We got one of the local girls to pose for us. This is Austrailia.
I have been working this week on prepping for several Antarctica trips. One this year, one next year and two in 2015. As I was working I came acorss this image which is one of my favorite shots of icebergs. So enjoy.
At certain times of year in Antarctica the days are very long. There are sunsets that blend into sunrises. There is color and beauty that you can only see at the bottom of the world. This is one of those typical sunset – sunrises. I am so looking forward to visiting there again later this year. For now it is off to Australia in a few days for what promises to be a great 2 weeks of photography.
Tuscany landscapes have building in them. Stone elegant buildings. You actually figure ways to use these building in your images. This is a shot done at sunset where the buildings do a lot to make the image. All I can say are the sunsets are so colorful and the light just begs to be photographed. I shot this with a Phase One IQ260 that has a lot of dynamic range capability and allowed me to keep detail in highlights and shadows. It would have been hard to make this shot with a DSLR camera.
