As I have stated in previous posts, the Palouse offers many surprises. This image was made at a place I have been going to for years. It is known as Shadow Valley Motors and is a collection of old trucks, an old Texaco gas station and more. These are arranged by a fellow that does this as a hobby. Funny thing is he doesn’t have an iPhone, computer or even an email address and he says he never thought the place would be a must see for photographers on tours in the Palouse. I have given him a pile of images I have made at his property over the years. He’s a cool guy and has even more things he’ll be adding. I plan to go back to the Palouse in the spring. This summer’s harvest and my last visit wasn’t the best for pictures. They have been suffering a terribly hot and dry summer which made them have to harvest the wheat a month early.

Heavy Metal Again
Yes sir, it’s heavy metal time again. I love rust and big old metal things. This was made of the track part of an old crane in a shipyard in a harbor in Cornwall, UK. I opted for BW jus because it looks nice this way.
Old Truck Headlight
In the Palouse as mentioned in previous posts there are a lot of abandoned trucks and cars, not to mention houses. This shot was made at the Texeco station where the owner collects old trucks. I loves the color, rust and especially the lines of the headlight and truck. So retro, so nice. Shot with a Fuji XT-1.
Big Valve
The Buffalo Water Works just keeps on giving. I am really looking forward to shooting at this location again. It was quite a remarkable place and today I present another image from my series. This one I like because it looks so industrial. The giant valve and gear driven wheel at the top and add the rust and it just works. The separation from the background works because of this beautiful gentle light that was coming from the skylights.
Trains 4
So my train project continues as I work on more if the images made during my shoot on Monday. Here is another. These were all made with the Fuji XT-1.
Train 2
Train
Sorry, it has been very busy with a lot of projects and I haven’t been able to find time to post. So, I’m back and will try to my daily postings again. This was made yesterday in French Lick, IN. There is a large train museum and old train depot. A photographers paradise. This isn’t the last you’ll be seeing from yesterday’s shoot.
Tractor In Field
I like to take back roads when I can and after shooting in Zion National Park last weekend I took some back roads and stumbled upon the scene. A rusty tractor in the field. Looks like it just died in place and was never touched again.
Rusty Abstract
Been very busy on a numb rod projects and haven’t done os well this past week keeping up with the posts here. I was once again going through my old images and came upon one I like a lot. This is from a project I am still working on called Rusty Abstracts. Rust and old peeling paint make for some great images.
The Best Rust
I am a rust addict. Ok, I have come clean. There is some attraction to rust that makes e seek it our. Rust has its own story. It is the decay of something that was. I find rust everywhere and love the texture and colors. It’s almost like an abstract. The best rust is in Antarctica and this trip I did a lot of rust shots on Deception Island. You’ll see more posted here. You can always use the tag on the right and click on rust to see all the rusty pictures.
