Roller Skates In The Desert
So, I am not one to always post pretty and dramatic images. Sometimes I will post the strange and different. Todays’ image is of a roller skate found in the middle of the desert while walking around, literally in the middle of now where. How did it get there? Where is the other one? What happened here? It’s not everyday you just find a roller skate in the desert.
Road To Death Valley
For the next 9 days I’ll be in Death Valley leading a Phase One PODAS photography workshop. I love these and I love Death Valley. On Friday on the drive from Vega to Death Valley I drove through so rare but intense storms. This shot is of one of the approaching storms. Makes for some dramatic clouds and such. I’ll try to post all Death Valley images this week. Some may be a bit different as yesterday I went out exploring and found some very peculiar things. Wait and see.
Off To Death VAlley
It seems I only unpacked my bags from Denmark. Now I am in bag packing mode again. Camera gear is all set and I am shipping it today to Death Valley where I will be for the next ten days leading a group of Chinese photographers on a PODAS workshop. This will be a fun trip and present a few language challenges. However, I have worked a lot with the Chinese in the last year and they are very nice. I hope to show them the real beauty of Death Valley and some of my special spots there. Starting next week look for some images from the trip and you can always catch up on daily activities at the PODAS BLOG.
The Rock
In two weeks I’ll be leading a PODAS workshop into Death Valley with photographers from China. This will be a great experience to share with them the beauty of what Death Valley can offer photographically as well making some new friends. The language differences should make for some challenges teaching but we think we have that worked out. There are so many cool things to see and shoot in Death Valley. This will be a great trip. The image above was made with an IQ180 in Death Valley this past spring at what is know as the Race Track. Fascinating place where rocks move and leave trails behind them. No one has ever seen them move or know exactly how they move. What ever the reason it makes great shooting.
Super Sunset
Well, I am back at least until Tuesday. My surgery was put off until then as some vitals weren’t quite norm. THings looking better now so back to try again on Tuesday. My knee and shoulder have had enough and want to get this done. Today’s shot was made in DV a few months ago. It’s one of those once in a lifetime sunsets. We crested a hill and there it was. Stop the van and shoot away. This was done with a Phase One IQ180 camera and DF camera with a 28mm lens.
Death Valley
Good day…This is a shot of the Dunes in Death Vally from the Stove Pipe area. I like the way the images have different layers. I also processed it out to a gritty (sand) and different contrasty look. a different way to see this great area.
Death Valley Storm
One thing you can count on in Death Valley is a variety of weather. You can be on one side of the mountains and it can be claar and on the other side you can rain and snow. This was shot made traveling between Beatty and death Valley and these storms were just coming across the planes. I like the pattern and slight backlighting of the rain coming down.
Death Valley – Storm Coming
One thing I love about photographing in the west is the wide open – big sky feel that you get. You can see so far and so high and you get a perspective that you can’t get when you live with obscured horizons and trees everywhere. This was shot in Death Valley on the road to Beatty.
The Devil’s Golf Course
Yes, that is what they call tis place. This was shot at sunset during the PODAS workshop. What a rip this has been. I have many keepers and will be busy editing and working on images for weeks ahead. I am off to MOAB in a few weeks then a short time later Ireland. Lots of images and lots of workshops. I will keep this short as I must pack and get to the airport for the flight back to Indy. Hopefully I’ll be back to my regular schedule of a picture a day this week.
