I love blue icebergs. I intend to in the next year publish a book and do an exhibit on ice. I am kind of fascinated by ice and rust. Now that is some polar opposites. This is a northern iceberg. It was photographed on my trip to the arctic circle this past August. The ice in the north is different than in the Antarctic. I all make another trip to the arctic this summer and leave again for Antarctica again in a few weeks. Look for more ice in the near future.

Ice and Water
On my trip this past summer to Svalbard I was amazed at a lot of things. The wildlife always had my attention, but the ice and incredible landscapes had my focus. All during the trip I saw huge glaciers, wide open ice packs, and like in the image an amazing amount of melt off running off these glacier at an amazing large volume. This image I find to be stunning as there is so much depth and detail.
The Best Rust
As you may know I am fond of rust and decay. Each time I visit Antarctica I seem to always find good rust shots. Usually at old whaling sites or research bases. This is a side of a rusty tank shot at a Polish Antarctica Research Station.
So What Were You Doing Last week?
A week ago I was deep into the Antarctic region. We drove our ship the Polar Explorer up onto an ice shelf, lowered the gangway and walked across the frozen bay to visit Port Lockroy. It was just the beginning of an amazing day.
Penguin Love
Last week I was in Antarctica. It was very early in the summer season and I was seeing major blizzards and lots of snow and ice. Also, it was mating season for Penguins and there was a lot of it going on. I loved this shot. Penguin Love.
I’m Back
Wow…what an incredible two weeks. I am back from the Antarctica expedition. It was great to see Antarctica so early in the summer season. Beaches that I have landed on before were snow-covered with six feet of snow right up to the waters edge. There is so much to share about this trip. I am preparing a long article that will appear here and on Luminous-Landscape so stay tuned. Meanwhile enjoy the first image with more to come.
Boat On The Beach
While exploring Svalbard Norway this past August our expedition landed on a beach that had a beached wooden boat on it. The skies were grey and there was kind of an erie feel. I spent a while shooting this boat and this is one of my favorite images. Kind of tells its own story.
Svalbard Glacier
My first trip to the Northern Polar region was a lot better than I expected. In addition to some great wildlife images I was able to capture, I managed to shoot some really nice landscapes. This is shot was made from our ship of a very large glacier in Svalbard.
Old Crane
The recent trip I took to Svalbard was a great place to shoot many types of images. We did a landing one day on shore at an old marble mine. It was a great place to shoot old building as well as lots of rust. This image was made of an old crane used to load boats. I liked the rust as well as the color of the background. This was made with a Nikon D800E and a 24-70mm lens.
Land , Sea and Sky
I am going to switch things up a bit and move away from fall colors and head back north to Norway. This image was made this past August in Svalbard, Norway. It was shot from the ship while we were at anchor. I selected a square format and put very little land and water in the image as it was they sky that was so beautiful. Shot with a Nikon D800E and 8-400mm lens.
