Long Island Boat House

Long Island Boat House

I went through an HDR phase – High Dynamic Range photography.  It’s fun and serves a purpose with digital photography as it allows you to show highlight and shadow detail in a contrasty lighting condition.  Today too many photographers overuse it.  For me, I kind of dabble in.  I use it when it is needed which with Phase one cameras is not too often.  In this shot taken at a boatyard where my son was painting the fishing boat he runs, I decided that I was going to sue it and I would go to the grunge look for the whole day.  This is a shot of the little boat house.  What’s cool is you can see inside the boathouse as well as detail in bright sun.  I figured if I was going to do this I might as well exaggerate everything and bang here’s the shot.  I have another one from this day I’ll publish at a later date.

Statue Of Liberty

New York, New York - Statue Of Liberty

Okay, there is this technique called HDR – High Dynamic Range imaging and it can be cool but overdone.  But it is fun.  This is a shot from a series I did in Las Vegas using HDR techniques. It is obvious what it is and it photography with a Canon 5dII at New York, NY Hotel. Then I messed with it doing HDR and then once it was in my gallery on the iPhone I played with it some more to make this shot. It’s all about having fun using the tools a photographer has today.

Las Vegas Feast For The Eyes

Many people go to Las Vegas for the games and a chance win millions. Me, I enjoy the scenery. No matter where you point your camera there is something to take a photo of. So, you will see a lot of Las Vegas photos appearing in this blog. Todays photo is of the roller coaster at New York, NY Hotel. This was a series of three images blended together using HDR. The three exposures consisting of over, normal and under are blended together. While the camera was still the roller coaster was moving, giving a ghostly look. Just a fun shot.

Fun Shot

Abandoned Train Car - Noblesville, Indiana

This is a different image.  I really enjoy abandoned and decaying places.  Not to far from where I live are a number of train cars set out on a siding just decaying away.  This picture was shot inside one of these train cars.  The unusual look comes from a technique called HDR – High Dynamic Range imaging.  This technique allows the combining of several images of various exposures into one image.  It is good to show detail in highlights and shadows in a contrasty scene.  A lot of photographers over use this technique and I try to avoid it, but in this case it was perfect.  In addition I did an image flip and gave it a whole different look.  The geometry of the image and grungy color just make it work.  Hope you enjoy it.
