Wandering around Chicago I usually visit Grant Park. The morning there are always special. There is a big open air theater where they have musicals and it is an architectural masterpiece. I usually use my long lenses and have fund finding the abstract but having only the iPhone on this walk made me see different and work to find the shot. This is one of them I found.

The Bean Again
Every visit to Chicago is an adventure. As a routine I get up real early and walk the streets and visit places like the Chicago Bean and bug reflective chrome sculpture before the tourists do. It’s fun having the whole place to myself and I have done a ton of cool images there. Here is one from my most recent trip. Shot on my morning iPhone expedition.
Chicago Head
On my last trip to Chicago I did my morning walk with just an iPhone. I wanted shoot with an iPhone as it makes me see things differently. I used the Hipstamatic add to create the images you’ll see over the next few days. Seeing square is also challenging and proper framing of what you do see can make the ordinary look a bit different. This is a rather new sculpture in Chicago and it allowed for some creative angle. However, sometimes the straight on shot works best.
Having Some Fun
Last night I did a talk and demo at the Rivera Camera Club in Indianapolis. At these types of talks I like to take an image and work it to different levels. This is an image that was rotated and enhanced using a variety of techniques. Kind of goes with my current these of Architectual Abstracts.
Selfie
Everyone is doing to so why not me? This is a selfie I made recently on a trip to Chicago. Done early in the morning at the Bean when no one else was there. I had fun shooting reflections and trying to get something different. Mission accomplished!
Aqua Towers – Chicago, Take 1
I love Chicago. It’s one city I never get tired of shooting in. The architecture is second to none and offers the urban landscape photographer so many possibilities. This image was made right after sunrise of the Aqua Towers. This is a giant condo building that is designed to look like a wave. The trick is to use a long lens, expose for the highlights and shoot the building in high contrast with am abstract look. I shot this with a Fuji X-t1 and 55-200mm lens.
Chicago River
I love Chicago. It’s one of the best cities to do Street Photography. So much is happening everywhere you look. The Chicago River has a lot of traffic on it not to mention some great architecture on its shore. I like this shot as it is Chicago and the Chicago River.
Chicago Iron
Chicago is such a fun place to shoot street photography. You can get some real interesting images of some very unusual people and you can shoot shots like this that mix the city, steel and people into one image. I liked the framing and was trying to balance the perspective and composition out when a person walked into the image. Click and I got it. Make with a Phase One IQ180. Yes, you can shoot street stuff with medium format.
Nuclear Chicago
I love to play with images. This image was made with a Phase One IQ180 of the Chicago Skyline. It was a great shot and so sharp you could zoom into a window in the buildings and make out objects. Anyway, I was trying new effects out and I ended up with this one. It looked kind of cool and different, kind of like something nuclear.
A Bit Of A Different View
A few posts back I published an image of the Bean in Chicago. I was there on a walk about with my son Scott. I was looking to see and shoot something different and I asked Scott to pose. Here is the result. Kind of different and I toned the image a sepia color to add to the image overall. I like it and it makes you stop and look.
